Bangkok--June 2--Zeneca Agro Asiatic Ltd. Zeneca Agro Asiatic Ltd. has launched a new product that effectively prevents fungus infection in off-season high-quality mango Product Manager Marketing Department Dr Pakorn Suchare said the launch of “Amistar” fungicide in Thailand forms part of the firm’s continuous programme to introduce a new range of chemical products to boost crop yields and quality among Thai farmers. “Ensuring high productivity is key to Thailand’s effort to boost agricultural production and help to turn the economic crisis around. We believe Amistar can significantly help this objective ” he said. Off-season mango is one of the kingdom’s major exporting fruits with a good part of production shipped to countries like Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. Off-season mango also represents about 30% of total fruit market in Thailand. Amistar is a new generation of fungicide which has been developed from edible fungus. This organic substance is very effective in eliminating fungus but is not harmful to the environment or useful insects. Zeneca Agro Asiatic’s initial programme is to promote Amistar as a cure to anthracnose, a disease which poses the biggest threat for off-season mango growers. A series of activities is to be organized to educate growers and demonstrate the effectiveness of Amistar in dealing with anthracnose. There will be demonstration farms, seminars, advertising campaigns, and the provision of “hotline” consultative services for “disease management,” noted Dr.Pakorn.
