Bangkok--21 Jul--IDC
IDC's latest study on the Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) software market revealed that despite the stormy economy in the later part of 2008, the overall Application Deployment Software (ADS) market pushed through to register a 6.7% growth, from US$740.1 million in 2007 to US$789.7 million in 2008. Continuous application deployment projects and data warehouse implementations proved to be an essential source for growth as businesses went through overnight budget revisions and investment scopes changed during the economic crisis. IDC expects this market to flourish better as the economy stabilizes, and demand for BPM and SaaS accelerate.
Adren Lim, Market Analyst of IDC’s Asia/Pacific System Infrastructure and Middleware Software Research, said, "There is an increasing trend of investment being channeled towards extending the stack of application deployment software to be more complete and heterogeneous. As such, many software vendors have been working hard at differentiating themselves in terms of cost values and performance rates.” A recent IDC’s end-user research showed that 67% of respondents would continue with their current plans to deploy application deployment software within the next 18 months. 12% have plans to increase their spending on the software while only 5% are expected to reduce their budget.
“In the more matured countries, enterprises are looking at improving their alignment between business requirements and IT processes. Increased investment in business process management software would be critical to achieve this objective,” said Adren. “For the emerging countries, we are expecting the proliferation of applications within the on-demand platform to be a major driver for application deployment software investments," he further added.
Figure 1 portrays IDC's latest market sizing and a 5-year forecast for the ADS market in the APEJ region. Emerging countries like India, Vietnam and the PRC are expected to lead the pack in opportunities as these countries carry with them the highest 5-year compounded annual growth rates (CAGR) at 17%, 15% and 14% respectively. Although countries like Australia and Korea are expected to slow down significantly coming in to the first half of 2009, it is expected to pick up rapidly in the remaining half, fueled by government projects and economic stimulus plans. This will be key in many countries as the public sector across APEJ looks to improve efficiency among local and federal offices as well as deliver better services to the people. IDC is projecting that the market will reach its billion-dollar market in the region within the next few years.
