[JUJITSU] Two gold medals from jujitsu athletes lifted Thailand to fourth place in the medal standing of the 1st Asian Martial Arts Games at Indoor Stadium Hua Mark yesterday (August 5).
After ending the opening day of the sport with no gold medals, the hosts’ Bodin Panjabutra landed a gold medal in the men’s under 77kg with a three straight round-robin victory.
The 36-year-old Thai combatant, who trounced Neda ghtja Alanezi 14-0 in the first match, beat Siaf Alshamari of Iraq 14-0 in his second bout. In the third match, Bodin defeated Muhammad Haroon Shakir from Pakistan 14-0 before routing Din Mohummad Mubrariz of Afghanistan 14-0 in the final match to take the gold medal. Iraq received a silver medal, while contestants from Afghanistan and Pakistan shared a bronze medal each.
Thai athlete Saowanee Limpanayingyong, handed the host country another gold medal after her back-to-back victories in the women’s under 55kg fighting system. The 24-year-old Saowanee defeated H. farah Riaz from Pakistan 14-1 in the knock-out round before underlining her supremacy over Riaz with a 14-0 win. Sakshi Singh of India collected a bronze medal.
Thai Komrid Hanbenjapong failed to mimic his teammate and had to settle for the bronze medal after suffering a 14-0 defeat to Aiatullah Aiatullah of Pakistan in the semi-final in the men’s under 69kg fighting system. The gold medal went to a competitor from Pakistan, while the silver medal was taken by an Indian combatant.
[WUSHU & KUNGFU] Thailand raised the curtain of wushu & kungfu competition in the 1st Asian Martial Arts Games with a bronze medal from the men’s duilian apparatus combat after the matches at Silpa-Archa Building in Suphan Buri yesterday (August 5).
Thailand’s Baramee Kulsawadmongkol and the sibling of Pittaya and Sujitnao Sae-yang won the bronze medal for their home soil with 9.37 points.
The gold medal was taken home by the team of Shao Hongshuo, Zhang Chenghao and Zhao Yongjin from China with 9.75 points, while the Indian duo Johannes Bie and Aldy Lukman won the silver medal with 9.52 points.
