Low fares leader Jetstar Asia has announced expansion of Thailand services with a new double daily Singapore to Phuket offering from 15 December 2009* joining a new third daily Singapore to Bangkok service from 27 September 2009.
The confirmation of three additional daily services between Singapore and Thailand represents Jetstar’s most significant expansion of Thai services to date.
The new services come as the carrier confirms it will welcome an additional three A320 aircraft into its Singapore fleet of an existing seven aircraft over the next year.
The new Thailand services will deliver over 7,000 seats of new capacity into and out of Thailand.
This is in addition to Jetstar Asia’s existing twice daily A320 operations between Singapore and Bangkok and Jetstar Australia’s services between Sydney and Phuket three times weekly and between Melbourne and Bangkok three times weekly both with wide-bodied A330-200 aircraft.
To celebrate, Jetstar is having a special sale with Jetsaver Light fares (carry on luggage only) from Phuket to Singapore for 299 baht. The sale will start at 12 noon on Friday 21 August 2009 and will end on Saturday 22 August 2009, unless seats sell out prior. Sale fares are available for travel 12 January — 9 February 2010, 23 February — 10 March 2010, 23 March — 26 May 2010. Fares are subject to availability and are not available on all flights all days. See Jetstar.com for full terms and conditions.
Jetstar Asia and Valuair Chief Executive Officer Ms Chong Phit Lian said the new services were part of the carrier’s next strategic stage to build its low fares services across Southeast Asia under the Jetstar brand.
“Phuket will become our 18th destination from Singapore and provides not only Singaporeans low fares access to this popular Thai destination but will work well for passengers travelling through Singapore from Australia or other parts of the Jetstar network and for Qantas interline passengers travelling from Europe,” Ms Chong said.
“These new low fares services will provide fresh new travel opportunities for passengers and a great new capacity boost to local Thai tourism,” she said.
Jetstar’s new twice daily Singapore-Phuket marks a re-entry for Jetstar Asia into Phuket, and will also allow for travelers from Perth in Australia to fly one stop to the holiday destination, whilst also providing a valuable new source market across Jetstar’s growing intra Asian network.
Jetstar’s third daily Singapore-Bangkok service will operate as a middle of the day service, complimenting Jetstar’s existing early morning and evening schedule.
“Particularly in the current climate, we are seeing more and more business travelers embracing our low fares services between cities such as Singapore and Bangkok,” she said.
“We have seen a positive increase in the number of our corporate clients which now number over 400.
“The middle of the day timing not only provide more choices for regular travelers but suits very much the leisure market,” she said.
In addition to the Thailand services announced today, Jetstar has announced three additional weekly services between Singapore and Manila* to start from 25 October 2009, making services between Manila and Singapore to total of 10 services per week.
Jetstar Asia will welcome three new additional A320 aircraft into its fleet over the next 12 months to launch these new services and future growth.
“With the additional aircraft expected over the next 12 months, we will expect to be in a position of having 46% more capacity in a year,” Ms Chong said.
“Over the last few months, we have been creating the building blocks to expand our Southeast Asian presence with the commencement of new services, our new multimillion dollar regional marketing campaign across the region and commencement of our interline agreement with Qantas.
“Working with Jetstar in Australia is allowing us to fulfill our plans to grow the pan Asian network in order to offer low fares to more places across the region, delivering a more seamless passenger experience and better opportunities for travelers flying to, from or through Singapore,” she said.
