Thailand Textile Institute (THTI) is organizing a short-course for home textiles managers in an attempt to reinforce human resource in this sector. The 8-day course is designed to give textile executives broad overview of the sector and the product lines while expose participants to in-depth materials specific to home textile in terms of product development, technology, brand building and market trends.
During the last decade, Thai textile exports have expanded continuously. However, share of home textile production in Thailand is only 8-10% of the total Thai textile market.
Mr. Virat Tandaechanurat, executive director for the Thailand Textile Institute (THTI) expressed his confidence that Thailand’s home textiles industry has potentials to grow, as the sector comprises diverse groups of goods with mass production i.e. bedding, bath, rugs as well as kitchen and home decorative items. The manufacturing of home textiles varies widely- from mass production to semi-crafted cottage industry (OTOP). The development of this sector, therefore, covers a large number of producers- ranging from large manufacturers, SME’s, all the way to local communities.
“Home textiles made in Thailand still have room to grow both in the world market and the domestic one. A wide selection of Thai manufacturers can produce international standard quality products. However, the product ranges are still limited, and most companies still lack branding and marketing strategies. On the other hand, SME’s and OTOP producers still lack the basic knowledge of the manufacturing operation in terms of quality control, product standards and test, for example. Most are weak on product development, marketing, branding- areas which are important for the sector development. If we have human resources with knowledge and understanding on these matters, the industry will be greatly benefited,” said Mr. Virat.
To make a step along this line, THTI is introducing the first in-depth training course for executives in the home textiles industry, with the support from Ministry of Industry’s Office of Industrial Economics. The course will offer the participants — home textiles manufacturers and their suppliers, home textiles brands, retailers and wholesalers —systematic training on topics that they will find relevant and can really apply to their business.
“The course will be held at the Four Wings hotel on Sukhumvit 26, from September 18 to October 15. The training will run for 7 days in seminar format and one day on a field trip. The course is limited to 30 participants only because we want the executives to receive greatest benefits from the training,” the executive director added.
