Bangkok--2 Sep--Thai Airways International M.L. Ajcharaporn Na Songkhla, Director of Corporate Communications, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, provided clarification about an incident concerning outsource workers who gathered against airport security measures in the sorting area at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, under the Airports Authority of Thailand (AOT). The airport security measures, effective from today (1 September 2009) onwards, specified that outsource workers on duty in the ramp area, sorting area and other restricted areas are not allowed to bring any non-work related belongings into the premises. The announcement, resulting from a rising number of lost and missing items from baggage of departing passengers, was claimed to impend upon workers’ personal rights. AOT previously held a meeting with representatives from outsource companies and other related organizations to inform them of this new policy. In addition, THAI has arranged a meeting with contracted outsource companies to further communicate these measures. Under the circumstances, THAI’s Ground Support Equipment Services Department has clarified the measures to representatives from outsource companies and encouraged them to strictly adhere to these security measures. The outsource companies have been asked to file a letter of complaint, which THAI will further coordinate with AOT in this regard Currently, there are still no damages or any negative reports to the company’s operations and services from this incident. However, the Ground Support Equipment Services Department has already prepared for any manpower required.. THAI has implemented screening of every staff member entering restricted areas, including ramp and sorting areas, with personal lockers provided for each staff. Regarding airport security at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, THAI affirms that high emphasis is placed on this newly introduced policy. There were only few outsource workers in this rally as the majority of outsource workers and THAI staff who work in the restricted areas understand the security measures and the company will ensure that staff strictly comply with all airport measures.
