Thailand Management Association (TMA), in cooperation with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), Software Park Thailand and the College of Innovation at Thammasat University (CITU), announces the launch of the Thailand ICT Excellence Awards 2009 project in search of organizations and executives who have done an outstanding job for Information and Communication Technology in Thailand. The award entries are welcome today until October30, 2009. The winning awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 28 January 2010 at the Centara Grand Hotel and Bangkok Convention Center, Central World.
“Thailand ICT Excellence Awards 2009 is held on its second time this year and the main purpose of the feast is to add value, promote and raise the management standards of information and communication technology for Thailand’s organizations” said TMA Councilor and Chairman of Information Technology Management Group Cherdsak Thawornsate. “The awards are also meant to support the development of Thai software’s competitiveness to the world standards. According to the survey by the International Institute of Management Development (IMD), Thailand’s ICT is progressively improved to the intermediate level. However, there are still some weak points that must be improved and worked on for further quality development. Thailand Management Association prospects that the Thailand ICT Excellence Awards 2009 promotes progressively the great leap in ICT development for Thailand so it can continue to make great strides forwardly.”
Cherdsak also reveals that the award competition includes a seminar led by academics and ICT experts. The Thailand ICT Excellence Awards this year are divided into two types, branching in eleven categories:
1. The Project of the Year
? Thai Software Innovation
? Innovation
? Information Security
? Knowledge Management
? Change Management
? Government and Non-profit
This year the awards have been expanded to include projects from the government and non-profit agencies. Their clear successes have been accomplished under timeframes and investment budgets, as well as in line with regulations and various limitations.
2. Business Enabler for integrated projects that have well propelled commerce in

? Government Sector
? Manufacturing
? Services Sector
? Tourism Sector
This is the recent issued award of the year 2009 to promote the country’s tourism stimulating policy.
Thailand : National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) Deputy Executive Director Dr. Chadamas Thuvasethakul says “NECTEC has joined Thailand ICT Excellence Awards 2009 to support the technology and human resources development for industrial and academic sectors by adding values of the commercial and technological products altogether”. According to Dr. Kwan, NECTEC aims for stimulating Thailand’s consumption of information technology and excellent software products in organizations.”
Chamaiporn Pornruethianan, Deputy Director of Software Park Thailand (Technology Management Center, National Science and Technology Development Agency), as co-organizer of the event, says that according to informally studied data, there are approximately 35,000 Thais who work as IT personnel in the sector at different levels. The number is significantly low compared to the rate of country’s population. Chamaiporn says “As the representative of the Software Park, I truly hope this event will draw lot of people attention and stimulate strongly the IT potential development”
Asst. Prof. M.R. Pongsvas Svasti, Dean of the College of Innovation at Thammasat University (CITU) expresses “It is time for Thailand to step to the next level by the merge of technology and IT for knowledge innovation that is applicable for labor increase and productivity. The Thailand ICT Excellence Awards 2009 is open to governmental and private organizations that consume information technology effectively and efficiently and are remarkably distinguished in management and applying information technology to gain the maximum benefits for their organizations. Candidates can send in their applications from today until 30th October, 2009.
