Bangkok--18 Sep--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has strengthened its commitment to disseminating investment knowledge and creating an investment culture through entering into a joint venture with GMM Grammy PCL. “This act will enhance the potential of SET’s Money Channel to distribute information on finance and investment to a wider audience, with content that is more user-friendly and useful, benefiting the long-term development of the Thai capital market,” revealed SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai.
Starting in October 5, Money Channel will increase air-time to provide content on financial and investment to be 8 hours per day, and reach 18 hours daily within six months. Of the 18 hours, 8.5 hours will provide SET information, while 9.5 hours will be on personal finance management and investment.
SET allocates THB200 million per year to promote investment knowledge through Money Channel, to promote a culture of long-term saving and prudent investing in Thailand. Family Know-How Co., Ltd. (FKH), a SET subsidiary, manages Money Channel
To achieve SET’s mission and its objectives in enhancing Money Channel, SET searched for a FKH partner using three criteria: 1) the partner’s potential and experience in TV media, 2) the firm’s performance and financial status and 3) the company’s intention to develop Money Channel to disseminate financial and investment knowledge to a wider target. Based on those criteria, and after negotiation with several partners, SET has now joined with GMM Grammy PCL (GRAMMY), with each partner holding exactly 50% of FKH’s registered capital.
“Our investment in FKH, Money Channel’s producer, creating horizontal synergy. GRAMMY and FKH have different strong points which combine to create a product that is greater than the sum of the individual parts,” revealed GRAMMY Chairman Paiboon Damrongchaitham.
“The collaboration will help GRAMMY enter new areas, as SET has expertise in financial and investment content, while GRAMMY is expert in creative work and media.,” said Mr. Paiboon.
“An immediate benefit of this collaboration is an expansion of broadcasting, from 8 hours to 18 hours, covering 06:00-24:00 hours. The content will easier to understand and more interesting than before, aiding investors’ prudent decision-making, extending Money Channel’s audience base. Besides increasing the number of savers and investors, the improved programs will help existing investors better evaluate risks and returns,” said GMM Grammy PCL Chief Operating Officer Sumeth Damrongchaitham.
“We will create new marketing activities that respond to the needs of customers or our sponsors, e.g., creating more value added for clients. We will use the current Money Channel production team, as they possesses a good understanding about the capital and financial market, but will add support from our creative staff to make programs more interesting and easier to understand, aiming to create long-term audience base. These changes will start on October 5, 2009. On that day, we will focus on news and other information on the capital market for eight hours, and will gradually increase the new programs to reach 18 hours/day within six months,” added Mr. Sumeth.
The new Money Channel will broadcast through True Vision on channel 80, by local cable TV nationwide on channel 30, satellite or Internet at www.moneychannel.co.th.
