The recession over this last year has seen most countries around the world reduce electricity consumption. Having turned the corner, the future demand for power is for significant increases in demand and capacity, required for both the worlds growing population and improving regional economies. The Thai government is exploring new opportunities to develop efficient power production from coal, gas and nuclear, as well as the rapidly developing renewable energy market, in which Thailand is one of the first countries in Asia to have a policy to encourage generation of power from renewable sources. Strengthening Energy Security for Sustained Economic Growth The POWER-GEN Asia conference programme will enjoy a leading line up of over 100 excellent high quality international speakers from across the industry, discussing some of the most important issues facing the industry, economy and environment. Following this year’s conference theme, which looks at future energy security issues, a diverse range of topics will be discussed, from traditional fuel technology and the development of nuclear power, to the future of green and renewable power generation, discussed in the Renewable Energy World Asia conference track. Glenn Ensor, Event Director for POWER-GEN Asia, said, “We are extremely grateful for the support provided by the Ministry of Energy, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Metropolitan Electricity Authority, Provincial Electricity Authority, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization and the Thailand Exhibition & Convention Bureau. These organizations are an intrinsic part of this industry and we are delighted they consider POWER-GEN Asia an important event in their calendar.” “We look forward to a successful conference and exhibition in Thailand this October and look forward to welcoming the power industry professionals from Thailand and across the ASEAN region to this annual gathering.” According to the Exhibition Director and Acting President of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Mrs. Supawan Teerarat, “POWER-GEN Asia 2009 is very relevant and timely for Thailand’s energy industry. Along with all countries, our government is concerned over energy security, and has for some time been making considerable efforts to find new alternatives to fossil fuels, diversify the energy mix, improve efficiency and reduce transmission losses. “With the current fast-growing increase in energy demand both for domestic and industrial uses, it is imperative that we succeed in this task. TCEB is therefore delighted to give its full support to POWER-GEN Asia 2009. It is perfectly fitting that POWER-GEN Asia 2009 takes place at this time against a backdrop of compelling global environmental concerns. We believe that Thailand and the global community stand to benefit significantly from the greater focus on energy security that this event will generate,” concluding Supawan For further information on POWER-GEN Asia Conference & Exhibition 2009 visit www.powergenasia.com.
