Bangkok--24 Sep--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), in collaboration with UBS, held Investor Forum, inviting Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to build the confidence of investors in New York. Foreign investors are showing more confidence in Thailand’s economic outlook and capital market. Some have returned to invest through the Thai bourse and there is a tendency to invest more in Thailand.
“Joining the trip to build confidence on Thailand during the prime minister’s trip to address the United Nations General Assembly, SET and UBS’s Investor Forum on September 21 in New York features PM Abhisit Vejjajiva as the keynote speaker. Over 60 foreign investors from 25 funds and securities companies, with assets under management of over USD1 trillion (approx. THB34 trillion), joined the session,” revealed SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai.
The prime minister reassured his audience that Thailand is on track on economic recovery. The government will emphasize investment in major infrastructure projects to increase the country’s competitiveness, particularly by investing in transportation, water resources management and education. He also stated that he would like to see “Thailand as the smart investor choice or the target country for investors. The government will support the policy and other operation plans for effectiveness and to facilitate investment in Thailand.
“There are signs of the world’s economic recovery, with Asia, including Thailand, as a major economic driving force,” revealed Senator Phil Gramm, Vice Chairman of UBS, Investment Bank Devision. “UBS, the largest investment bank in Asia, will continue to invest in Thailand and be its business partner”, he continued.
“From these meetings, we realized that foreign investors still have confidence in Thailand and some of them have returned to invest. There should be more capital investment in our country as the economic situation improves. Questions from investors showed that they are interested in the government’s ‘Investing from Strength to Strength’ program and political reconciliation. PM Abhisit responded to their questions with clear explanations,” concluded Ms. Patareeya.
