Bangkok--28 Sep--Plan Asia Communications Young Hearts Youth Arts & Media Festival Plan to spotlight the power of Asian youth media to fight violence in schools 10:30am-7pm, 3-4 October 2009, Siam Discovery and Discovery Plaza, 989 Rama 1 Rd, Pathumwan Bangkok 7pm-9pm, 4 October 2009, Gala Dinner Recognition Ceremony, Adriatic Palace Hotel, 1178 Adriatic Palace Building, Wireless Rd, Radtavee, Bangkok The festival Plan’s first-ever regional Young Hearts Youth Arts and Media Festival will showcase top-quality youth art and media productions that confront the epidemic of violence in schools. The festival will be opened with a keynote address from the Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhisit Vejjajiva. The regional festival is the culmination of a series of country-level national youth media campaigns. The festival will showcase some of the best youth media and art from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Film, TV and radio productions, musical performances and recordings, short stories and poems, theatrical productions, comics, posters and other visual arts pieces will illuminate the valuable things young people have to say and the exciting and engaging ways they are saying it. The festival will encourage the mainstream broadcast, publication and viewing of youth media while also fighting against violence in schools. Violence in schools Violence in schools is a shocking reality for many children all across Asia. All too often students must confront bullying, corporal punishment, sexual violence and other forms of harassment in their schools. With the help of Plan, through the global Learn Without Fear campaign, children and youth have raised their voices and used their creative talents to combat school-based violence.
