80’s Rock Chic
There’s no escaping the 80s this season. The Rock Chic look is all about attitude and style, with all-important biker influences mixed with the heady days of disco. Use embellishment and think about new applications and placements with studs, grommets and sequins. Reinterpret animal prints to add to this look. Play with scale, and create oversized bicolor prints in contrast colors. Black is the key shade, but play with matt and shine through a combination of different fabrics and textures. Freshen up the look with white, ochre, rich pink and blues as an alternative to 80s dayglo colors.
Earth Bound
This nomadic look to the collection feels refreshingly soft and unstructured. Evolve the look through textural and tonal layering. Soft jersey, mohair, brushed wools, luxe wools, metallic leather are the key materials. Add subtle lurex touches and offset against more earthy knits. Prints are directly influenced by nature’s surfaces. Look to minerals, rocks, organic textures and the night sky to create a subtle and atmospheric print direction.
Country Grunge
A move on from last season’s Simple Life trend explores the grunge look of the early 90s. Comfort is key and items are thrown together for a relaxed, out and about in the country mood. Creating a strong outdoors look with an urban edge, this trend has the eclectic appeal notorious among street trends. Fabrics are casual and comforting like fur, mohair, shearling, brushed cotton and tweeds. Denim is worn and distressed with a true vintage feel. Colors are earthy and rustic.
Warrior Goddess
Our Greco-Roman goddess radiates a fighting warrior spirit. An evolution of last summer’s drapery, mix sensual fabric with studded leather for a look not to be messed with. Add embellishments such as sequins and studs. Use exposed zips and fastenings as design features with burnished silver and antique gold finishes. Black on black was key. Soften with grey and winter white, then combine with indigo and metallics.
New Nostalgia
As the important of investment pieces and timeless appeal is re-emphasized, the grown-up ladylike looks of the 40s return. From simple wartime austerity to grown-up feminine glamour, this trend beings along with it, the understated sexiness of the strong woman. Fabrics support the mood. The heavy heritage fabrics of wool, tweed and houndstooth are prevalent, with an injection of femininity coming through the use of sheers, fur, charmeuse and velvet. Tomato red and oxblood red combine with classic black, camel and cosmetic pales for layering effect.
