Bangkok--12 Oct--SAMITIVEJ HOSPITAL Samitivej recently host the 10th annual medical symposium from 30 September - 2 October 2009 at the Chalerm Phra Baramee Building at the Medical Association of Thailand’s office, Soi Soonvijai. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindorn graciously presided over the opening of the symposium on September 30 at 9.00 Hr. The annual symposium has been organized for 10 consecutive years to offer opportunities for medical and healthcare professionals to meet and share the latest medical knowledge and give the audience inspiration to continue learning and applying the latest medical technology for the best benefits of the patients. It attracted approximately 1,000 participants every year. The proceeds from the registration fee are presented to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to support her royal projects. To celebrate its 30th anniversary this year, Samitivej sets the theme for the symposium as “30 Years of Expertise”. This year, leading hospitals under Dusit Medical Services Group Plc, including Bangkok Hospital and BNH Hospital, will also participate in the symposium for the first time. Professor Emeritus Dr. Chanika Tuchinda, chairperson of the symposium, said, “HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has been contributing greatly to education and learning. The opening keynote speech for this year is therefore set under the topic of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Educational Development. We are honored that Associate Professor Khunying Sumontha Promboon, former president of Srinakharinwirot University and a director of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Foundation joined us this year to deliver this keynote speech.” During the three day symposium, leading experts in various medical fields presented on a wide range of topics, both specialized area and diseases that are most found in patients of all age. Some of the topics for presentations are Autofluorescence technology for diagnosing early stage of lung cancer, In Vitro Maturation technology that helps people with fertility problem, treatment and care for patients from fire accident, treatment and care for liver and liver cancer disease, cardiovascular disease, stem cell technique as a treatment of Thalassemia, who should take flu vaccine, treatment and care for diabetic patients, assistance for children with learning disability, accident prevention in young children, and LEAEN Process for Better Quality. In addition to specialized medical presentation, the symposium covered other areas, such as the future of Thai traditional medicine in the Southeast Asia in 2012 presented by Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-osoth, the Group CEO of Dusit Medical Services Group Plc; communications and information technology for building ‘hospital without wall’ presented by Dr. Somsiri Sakolsatayadorn, Director of Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital; and legal tips for medical professionals. Dr. Somsiri Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., Director of Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital, said, “Telemedicne has been playing a vital role in our operations and it did it job well again as we broadcast it to the hospitals within the group.
