Canon is introducing six models of its new IXUS, notably IXUS 200 IS. This model is specifically tailored made to meet requirements of users with every kind of life styles, and is spearhead to penetrate the market along with the hi-end PowerShots.
The new IXUS boasts “Touch to Play” smart touch screen LCD technology, with colourful designs that encourage users to think out of the box when they’re shooting pictures.
The outstanding mew features of IXUS 200 IS — including Colour Accent, Colour Swap, Creative Light Effect functions and Smart Auto modes -- will make it easier for users to take a photographs creatively and develop new ideas.
Of the six digital compact cameras models, the company expects IXUS 200 IS to become a bestseller by the end of 2009. In addition, there are IXUS 120 IS, PowerShot G11, PowerShot S90, PowerShot SX20 IS and PowerShot SX120 IS.

IXUS 200 IS and IXUS 120 IS
Canon’s IXUS 200 IS features a three-inch PureColor II LCD embedded with ‘Touch to Play’ technology for easy, intuitive operations with a flick of the finger. Users simply touch-screen to select their subject of choice for auto-focussing and tracking. Other interesting features that users can access instantly in this way include special scene modes, flash settings, exposure compensation, shutter, playback and more.
Smart Auto mode in IXUS 200 IS and IXUS 120 IS integrates Scene Detection Technology with Servo AF/AE (focussing and tracking), enabling the cameras to take more beautiful, life-like images in crisp detail in Auto mode whatever the shooting conditions. Auto sensing of scene, focussing distance, type of subjects, contrast, brightness, overall hue and movement detection are calculated for optimum shots in up to 22 different scenarios.
The new IXUS products surpass conventional digital compact cameras with their ultra-wide angle 24mm lens in IXUS 200 IS and 28mm wide angle lens in IXUS 120 IS. They provide a wider prospective view than any previous cameras, best used to capture breathtaking scenery and larger group shots with much less difficulty than ever before.
Users can create artistic images with new Color Swap & Color Accent features to highlight their favourite colours, while the Creative Light Effect function will transform the shape of background bright spots into six different chic shapes like stars, hearts and music notes, in two different sizes.
IXUS 200 IS is available in four different metallic colours: purple, silver, blue and brown. The slimmest 20mm-IXUS 120 IS also comes in four metallic choices: silver, black, blue and brown.
In addition to its new IXUS products, Canon is unveiling four new hi-end PowerShot models: PowerShot G11, PowerShot S90, PowerShot SX 20 IS and PowerShot SX 120 IS.
The PowerShot G11 is loaded with extensive shooting functions and delivers much lower image noise with Canon’s latest Dual Anti-Noise system consisting of a high-sensitive CCD sensor and Digic 4 imaging processor. Altogether, it can drastically improve imaging performance, boosting both sensitivity and saturation by 40 per cent for images captured in the most demanding light situations. PowerShot G11 is the right answer for all users, from entry-level users to advanced photo enthusiasts, who are looking for big features in a compact body.
Canon’s S-series, PowerShot S90 provides more comfortable operation and analog-like feeling with the newly improved Control Ring. By turning the ring of the lens barrel, more varied shooting settings are possible, including manual focus, self-timer setting and ISO speed setting. The advanced huge f/2.0 aperture lens with the optical image stabilizer of up to 4 stops allows a shallow depth of field, enabling users to capture more beautiful background blur at any time they wish. Other benefits include higher shutter speed that can be used in low light conditions, preventing camera shake and subject blurring. In the new Nostalgia scene mode, users can adjust up to five different levels of contrast and roughness to take pictures with the flavour and atmosphere of old photographs.
For prosumers, the most powerful high zoom camera is Canon’s SX-series. The latest PowerShot SX20 IS incorporates a 20x optical zoom with OIS, 28mm wide angle lens, 0cm macro close-up shooting, High Definition movie recording with stereo sound recording and a scratch-resistant 2.5” vari-angle LCD. The PowerShot SX120 IS features a 10x optical zoom, 1cm macro shooting on 3.0” LCD screen.
The new SELPHY ES40 and CP 790 compact photo printers are also being released. Everyone in the family will enjoy designing more creative colourful print-outs with the new Voice Guidance, using audio guidance to explain the operation procedures to users. Voice instructions are available in seven languages.
The Creative Print function offers a wide range of printing options. The new printers are compatible with more than 20 types of memory cards and are convenient to use with wireless connection to mobile phones and computers.
