The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation has recognized Mr. Sanguan Mongkolsripanlert, an agriculturist in Krabi province for his outstanding work in rural development, with the “Mechai Viravaidya Award supported by SET Foundation.” His achievement was to create a holistic agricultural system that is in line with sufficiency economy theory, using it to educate nearby communities and creating sustainable self-reliance.
“This award is one of the six fields in the SET Foundation’s social recognition project, which began in 2007, to honor those who have dedicated themselves to community development,” said SET Foundation board member and Secretary Patareeya Benjapolchai.
“SET Foundation was supported by Population and Community Development Association (PDA) in selecting a person in rural development award to receive a grant from SET Foundation. Mr. Sanguan has devoted himself to developing a holistic agricultural system utilizing local resources to the utmost. SET Foundation support for his project will help it benefit a wider community and inspire others to dedicate themselves to the Thai society,” she continued.
“Mr. Sanguan was at the sufficient agricultural learning center in Krabi, creating and developing courses about agricultural systems, combining theories that were in line with sufficiency economy. This award will help promote his work, has strengthened the sustainable self-reliance of the participating community. Also, the award helps recognized and create public-minded persons,” revealed PDA Chairman Mechai Viravaidya.
The PDA’s selection committee for the award consisted of eight persons: three PDA directors, four PDA executives, and a SET Foundation representative. They considered outstanding work that consistently and effectively developed rural communities, improving the standard of living for the participating communities, and inspiring others to benefit society.
