“Honda Click” broke Thailand’s record of 1,000,000 units sold Despite the gloomy economy, the overall motorcycle market wrapped up the third quarter with a positive sign, aiming to reach new height. The third quarter ended with a rise by 6 percent while “Honda Click” broke the Thailand’ s record of Automatic Transmission bike passing 1,000,000 units sold since 2006. Recently released “Honda Scoopy i” had a great take-off, ready to push the overall market to reach 1.47 million units sold at the end of the year.
There were 129,112 new motorcycles being registered in September, which rose by 6 per cent from the previous month. However, compared to the same period last year, the number of 1,138,001 new bikes being registered in the first three quarters was a decrease by 14 per cent.
“Campaigns introduced by manufacturers during the past month were the factors that boosted the sales of the third quarter,” says Teerapat Chivaphong, sales director of A.P. Honda. Co., Ltd. “Click Jaek Yai, Dai Mai Tong Loon” by A.P. Honda boosted the sales of “Honda Click”, making it the first automatic transmission model in Thailand to break the record of 1,000,000 units sold in less than four-year time in mid-October. The model is the fourth to break the record of 1,000,000 units sold, after “Honda Dream”, “Honda Wave” and “Honda Tena”.
Market forecast for over all motorcycle market expects to be more active in the last quarter, with a world-class model produced in Thailand. Only two weeks after its release, more than 20,000 “Honda Scoopy i”, the original fun from Japan, were booked. Among the seven designs, The classic black/brown Prestige is the most popular. During the last quarter, Honda has also injected more advertisement campaigns for “Honda Scoopy i” with “Last Train to Bangkok” film and “Co-Promotion Campaign with Coke”; Forty five Honda Scoopy i will be given away in the next 45 days until December 31 with Coke.
Moreover, world-class model “Honda PCX” which is produced in the country will soon be world premiered in Thailand. The new introduction to a better technology is a mission to meet the customers’ demands in every segment.
The number of new registrations in September consists of 62,551 for family bikes which is 48 percent of the overall market. The family bike has always been the most popular in the market. In the first three quarters, there were 561,014 new family bikes being registered, which is 49 percent. Honda took 85 percent market share in the category.
The registrations in other categories in the first three quarters were 530,652 for automatic transmission bikes or 47 percent; 27,937 for family/sports bikes or 2 percent; 8,723 for sports bikes or 1 percent; and 9,157 for others or 1 percent.
Of all registered bikes in the market, Honda has 749,203 units or 66 percent; Yamaha has 319,914 units or 28 percent; Suzuki has 47,751 units or 4 percent; Kawasaki has 10,406 units or 1 percent; JRD has 1,388 units; Platinum has 802 units; Tiger has 718 units; and 7,819 units for others.
