The first era during 1934-1940, the crown was designed by the Fine Arts Department and it was embroidery velvet design with golden and silver thread and Thai arts such as Kanok pattern. In 1939, by government order, the name of Siam was changed to Thailand and the beauty pageant must be named Miss Thailand. After that the country involved into world war, so the beauty pageant had been put on hold for several years. The government brought back the beauty contest in 1948, and it came to second era of Miss Thailand during 1948-1954. At that time, the crown was made from embroidery fabric with pendant and diamond ring decoration. In 1954 due to the political front, Miss Thailand as a part of constitutional celebration was being frozen, however the small beauty contests at community level still going on their traditional. In 1960, the Miss Vajiravudh contest has once begun on trial to the further step of Miss Thailand by the alumni association of Vajiravudh College, the Thai aristocracy’s adaptation of an English public school. It came to the third era during 1964-1972, the enthusiasm for beauty contest was a direct descent from the tradition. It was the golden period for tourism industry, and Miss Thailand was also medium to promote Thailand through its international framework of co-operation. This time, the embroidery crown was first-ever shifted to diamond depicted the beauty tiara. It looked similar with crystal head band with tiny ring in the back. The first tiara was designed by Old Vajiravudh Students Association that signified status of power and beauty. The tiara band was made from silver and had 200 diamonds and won by Miss Thailand 1964 Apasra Hongsakula who then became the first woman from Thailand to win Miss Universe. In 1966 Burin Wongsanguan started to get involve in designing the crown for Miss Thailand. Later on with an inspiration of the crown of Miss America pageant, Burin came up with the new idea of crown and the tiara revival of tiny band came to an end soon after Sangduen Manwong was crowned in 1968. The height of this first crown for Sangduen was designed in even level through the crown. Even the giant crown was majestic and elegant, the weight seemed to be bit too heavy for beauty queens. At that time Burin kept the status and idea of powerful and beauty woman presenting on the large size of crown. So, to reduce the crown’s weight, he simply adjusted details and unveiled the new pattern of the crown and set the most height in the middle front part and gradually slope down both sides. The sloping crown was the first time to display in 1971 when Nipapat Sudsiri won the title, and most audiences were well-recognized when Porntip Nakhirunkanok was crowned. Burin mentioned ‘crown is really a treasure piece for beauty queen and a good crown simply brings out an aura everywhere she goes.’ During 1984-1999 came to the fourth era, when television channel 7 broadcasted the pageant, the great significance crown mostly designed by Burin Wongsanguan (except 1984-1987). Note that a revolutionary design has been utilized to mark the beauty pageant concept, a crown replacing the former tiara. The huge piece got lot of attentions when Porntip Nakhirunkanok won the title in 1988 as jewelry accessory once again designed by Burin Wongsanguan. In addition, the crown for Miss Thailand 1989 Ms.Yonlada Ronghanam was also recognized as one of the best piece of crown or the most perfect size and details portion.
