The Royal Danish Embassy in Bangkok is hosting a combined green technology exhibition/seminar as a lead-up to the COP15 conference in Copenhagen in December 2009. The event is organised under the title "Thai-Danish Exhibition: Eco Technologies for Industry and Private Homes" and will take place at the Pullman Bangkok King Power in Bangkok on the 26th November 2009.
The COP15 is hosted by the Danish government and is the 15th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (United Nation Framework Climate Change Convention). It will take place in Copenhagen from December 7 to December 18. 192 countries have signed the UNFCCC, and will participate in the negotiations in Copenhagen. The Danish government's overarching objective is that COP15 will result in a global agreement that includes all countries of the world and sets an ambitious target for reducing global greenhouse gas emissions.
The COP15 in December 2009 is crucial for the international climate change negotiations, since it will be one of the last chances for an agreement if it is to be approved and ratified prior to the expiry of the commitments set in the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
The "Thai-Danish Exhibition: Eco Technologies for Industry and Private Homes" will illustrate Thai-Danish commercial partnerships regarding green technology products evolved from the Partnership Facility Program. The program has been financed by the Danish International Development Agency (Danida) during the last ten years. The aim of the program has been to reduce pollution and environmental pressure through the transfer of knowledge and green technologies in the areas of environment and energy.
Danish companies have for many years had a strong foothold on the global market for products and consultancy services in the field of green technologies. In Thailand, the Danida supported Partnership Facility Program has led to several partnerships between Thai and Danish companies.
The partnerships' projects include loss reduction in electricity distribution, environment preserving fish/shrimp processing equipment, cooling systems based on the burning of biomass, equipment for recycling of organic waste, organic waste water treatment, solar PV, low energy housing, and solar-powered water pumping systems. During the event each partnership will present their product, followed by a panel discussion where clients will share their experiences with the various products.
For the event 300 delegates, including government officials, academics, and business people with interest in eco technologies were participate. Sub. Lt. Prapas Limpabandsu, Vice Minister of Energy in Thailand and the Danish Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Michael Sternberg recently presided over the event.
