Honda Wave 110i Still a Hit in the Last Quarter

Bangkok--1 Dec--A.P. Honda Despite its sales fall in October, Honda Wave 110i maintained its popularity at the beginning of the last quarter. The sales of October closed with a decreased by 7 per cent at the closing of monsoon season, compared to the previous month. Thanks to the popular PGM-FI technology installed in all motorcycle, there were 26,715 new Honda Wave110i being registered in October. With the recent releases of Honda Click i and Honda PCX scooter, the market forecast for the last two months of the year expects to be more active. Released on the Father’s Day, falling on December 5, Honda PCX will be world premiered at the 26th Thailand International Motor Expo 2009 at Challenger Hall, Muang Thong Thani between December 3 and 13. “The family model, a main category, decreased the least in the over all motorcycle market. Thanks to the sluggish economy, the economical family model attracts more demands from the consumers,” says Teerapat Chivaphong, managing director of A.P. Honda Co .,Ltd. “Honda has always been the leader of the family motorcycle. And Honda Wave has always been number one on the registration list from the beginning of the year till October. The model has also played an important role in pushing the over all motorcycle market. From an increase by 23 per cent at the beginning of the year, the sales of FI model increased by 47 per cent in October. The collected number of FI technology registration till October was 518,602 units,” Teerapat continues. The over all motorcycle market kicked off the last quarter with a registration of 119,918; comprising 59,550 units or 50 per cent for family bike; 55,007 units or 46 per cent for automatic transmission; 2,831 units or 2 per cent for family sport model; 881 units or 1 per cent for sports model; and 1,649 units or 1 per cent for other categories. There were 1,257,919 units being registered for the first 10 months of 2009, which was decreased by 14 per cent, compared to the same period of the previous year. The fall resulted from the slow economy. However, the government’s economic stimulation has encouraged people to spend more, and also pushed Honda Wave 110i the number one. Honda Wave has always been the number one model among the consumers. The number of new registration in October was 44,346, comprising 26,715 units for Honda Wave 110i; 9,911 units for Honda Wave 100, 3,632 units for Honda Wave 125i ; and 4,088 units for Honda Wave other series including R, S, X and Z. The registration in October (categorized by models) To start the last quarter with another victory, Honda has not only strengthen its leadership with the number one sales for Honda Wave 110i, but also released new “Honda Scoopy i” to be the new entry last month, following its successful predecessor Honda Click that became the first automatic transmission model to break the record of 1,000,000 units sold. Honda Click was first introduced to the market in 2006. To emphasise the leadership, world-class Honda PCX, equipped with the state-of-the-art technology will be world premiered in Thailand in the 26th Thailand International Motor Expo 2009 at Challenger Hall, Muang Thong Thani from December 3 to 13. The number of new bike registration from January to October for popular family model is 620,564 units or 49 per cent of the over all registration; Honda vehicles accounted for 84 per cent. Other registrations for the first 10 months are 585,659 units or 47 per cent for automatic transmission; 30,768 units or 2 per cent for family/sports model; 9,604 units or 1 per cent for sports model; and 11,324 units or 1 per cent for other categories. Of the over all motorcycle sales, Honda vehicles accounted for 826,269 units or 66 per cent; Yamaha for 354,846 units or 28 per cent; Suzuki for 53,164 units or 4 per cent; Kawasaki for 11,762 units or 1 per cent; JRD for 1,436 units; Platinum for 856 units; Tiger for 851 units; and others for 8,735 units.
