Bangkok--23 Dec--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation has given the Associate Professor Sugree Charoensook Award 2009 to honor Professor Poonpit Amatayakul, MD for his outstanding work in music development. He specializes in musicology and music history, and inspires his students about music. He is accepted both domestically and internationally and is a key person in keeping Thai music alive through the generations.
“This recognition award is to honor a person who for many years has preserved the heritage of Thai culture through Thai music. SET supports and encourages awardees in various fields to support and sustain Thai society,” said SET President and SET Foundation board member and Secretary Patareeya Benjapolchai.
“The Sugree Charoensook Foundation unanimously selected Professor Poonpit to receive this award for his devotion to society and his music-related creation, e.g., music education, performances, dissemination of music knowledge, and producing music personnel,” said Sugree Charoensook Foundation Chairman Associate Professor Sugree Charoensook, PhD.
Prof. Poonpit teaches undergraduates through doctoral candidates. He has written articles on music, produced multi-media works about music, and researched about musicians. He continues to work in the music industry, e.g., helping write a Thai music encyclopedia for the Royal Institute.
Sugree Charoensook Foundation selected a person with outstanding work in music, having 14 committees: eight committees from Sugree Charoensook Foundation, three honorable committees (e.g., Mr. Nawarat Pongpaiboon, Mr. Vinai Phanturak), two awardees who received the award in 2007 and 2008 and a SET Foundation representative, together consider the work of a person to receive the award for music this year.
This prize is one of the six awards under SET Foundation's social recognition project to honor those who sacrifice for society. SET Foundation has supported this project since 2007, recognizing outstanding persons in each field and encouraging them to continue their good work, including inspiring others to contribute more to society.
