After a long challenging year, the local motorcycle market finally bounced back in November, with a 9-per-cent increase from the previous month. Featuring 130,264 units of new motorcycle registration in November, the number rose by 4 per cent, compared to the same period of last year.
Being the market leader, Honda swept 68 percent market share of the over all market. Honda alone sold 88,900 units, which is a 15-per-cent rise from the previous month; and a 11-per-cent rise, compared to the same period of last year. After a successful release of “Honda Scoopy i”, Honda gained 51 percent of the market share in automatic transmission (A.T.) model, with 31,317 units sold.
“Since the global and local economy picking up and the government has encouraged more spending among the locals, the consumer’s confidence is restored, resulting in a higher revenue in November,” said Teerapat Chivaphong, sales director of A.P. Honda. A.T. model from Honda remained the most popular model among the local consumers, with 31,317 units sold in November or a 51-per-cent market share.
“Honda PCX will strengthen Honda even stronger,” said Teerapat after the release of world-class scooter manufactured in Thailand for the global market. “The scooter will not only strengthen our name as a leader in A.T. market, but also become an alternative for our customers, covering every market segment.”
In November, there were 130,264 units of new registration: which are 63,240 units of family motorcycles or 49 percent; 61,348 units of A.T. model or 47 per cent; 2,968 units of family/sport model or 2 percent; 894 units of sports type or 1 per cent; and 1,814 units of other categories or 1 percent.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been 1,388,189 units of new registration, a 13-percent decrease, compared to the same period of last year. However, family model remains the most popular model among the local commuters with a 49-per-cent market share or 683,809 units being registered, 86-per-cent of which swept by Honda.
In the first 11 months, there were 647,008 units of A.T. model from Honda being registered or 47 per cent; 33,736 units of family/sports model or 2 per cent; 10,498 units of sports model or 1 per cent; and 13,138 units for other categories or 1 per cent.
Categorized by the manufacturers, Honda took 66 per cent of market share or 915,172 units sold; Yamaha 28 per cent or 388,284 units sold; Suzuki 4 per cent or 58,169 units sold; Kawasaki 1 per cent or 13,247 units sold; JRD with 1,499 units sold; Platinum with 1,003 units sold; Tiger with 999 units sold and 9,816 units sold from other brands.
