APT Management Committee decides on new programs to pursue the Bali Ministerial Statement

Bangkok--28 Dec--Asia Pacific Telecommunity The 33rd Session of its Management Committee of the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) held from 14 to 16 December 2009 in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran decided various issues including new programs to pursue the objectives of the Bali Statement on strengthening regional collaboration towards a broadband economy. Delegates at the three-day meeting agreed on the APT Work Program 2010 which has been developed based on the assessment made at the Bali Ministerial Meeting as well as in line with APT Strategic Plan. New programs/events to be launched in 2010 will cover new areas such as Cyber Security, Disaster Management/ Communication, International Mobile Roaming, e-Application/e-Government etc. Current APT strategic direction focuses mainly on Policy and Regulation, Technology Development and Standardization, Radiocommunication and Capacity Building. APT, as a leading regional organization, will also hold several Preparatory Meetings in 2010 to coordinate regional views and develop APT Common Proposals (ACPs) for two important events of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), i.e. ITU World Telecommunication Development Forum (WTDC’10) and ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP’10) to be held in 2010. The preparatory meetings will harmonize and promote the views of the Asia-Pacific Region on the global scene for benefits to APT Members and to the region as a whole. The 34th Session of the Management Committee of APT will be held in Macao, China in 2010 and hosted by the Bureau of Telecommunications Regulation (DSRT). Find more information at www.apt.int
