Thai futures exchange ready to welcome new gold-related agents

Bangkok--8 Jan--SET The Thailand Futures Exchange PCL (TFEX) will welcome gold traders as new gold-related agents and launch 10 baht gold futures. TFEX is supporting gold traders from the Gold Trader Association and Thailand Gold Retail Club to become gold-related agents by reducing admission fees from THB4 million (approx. USD121,200) to THB1.2 million (approx. USD36,400). Moreover, the Securities and Exchange Commission has allowed retail gold traders to be selling agents for gold futures clients. “Since June 2009, TFEX has discussed trading of gold futures with the Gold Traders Association, Thailand Gold Retail Club, and TFEX members. TFEX is open to any proposal, and is waiting to hear from the Thailand Gold Retail Club,” noted TFEX Managing Director Kesara Manchusree. Other measures by TFEX to support gold traders include providing training about derivatives, regulations, and preparing marketing officers for the derivatives license examinations. TFEX also supports gold traders on marketing activities and knowledge-sharing, including providing points of view on various topics.
