STAR WORLD invites viewers to sing out loud in the US musical comedy Glee across Thailand and Southeast Asia. The high school musical with pop hits just took the award for Best Television Series — Comedy or Musical in the Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on 17 January.
The critically acclaimed series focuses on young, optimistic high school teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), who volunteers to take on the harrowing task of bringing McKinley High’s Glee Club back to its former glory in order to take on the biggest competition of them all: the Nationals.
But this is no easy task as the Glee Club is home to a group of social outcasts and middling performers. With only two real talents in his sights - perfectionist Rachel (Lea Michele) and popular high school quarterback Finn (Cory Monteith) - the club has a glimmer of hope. Despite being constantly beaten down by cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), Will and fellow teacher Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) do whatever they can to make the show choir great once again.
Created by Emmy-nominated producer Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck), the series struck the right chord with critics and scored four Golden Globe nominations including Best Television Series — Comedy or Musical. Michele for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series — Comedy or Musical; as well as Michele and Lynch both nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Comedy or Musical and, Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
In the US, Glee kicked off the season with style and became the season’s No. 1 new series among adult age 18 — 34 and women 18-49. The musical comedy also ranked as the No. 1 show overall among female teens and captured one of the most educated audiences (4+ years of college) in broadcast primetime, and gained enormous media feedback in the US:
