KARA DIOGUARDI (Judge on AMERICAN IDOL)
Kara DioGuardi was recently honored with the 2009 Icon Award, which is granted by the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) to outstanding songwriters for personal achievement. She is also a Grammy Award nominee, the 2007 BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year and a 2007 SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) Award winner.
One of the music industry's most highly sought-after songwriters and producers, DioGuardi's songs have appeared on more than 100 million records, and she has been awarded 10 BMI Pop Awards for having co-written the most-performed songs on the radio.
From her extensive catalog, 268 songs have been released on major labels worldwide and 168 others have appeared on multi-platinum-selling albums. Throughout her career, she has had nearly 40 international chart-topping hits and her songs have helped propel 45 albums into Billboard's 200 Top Ten. DioGuardi's work has been featured in major motion pictures, television shows, film soundtracks and radio spots, as well as in national and international commercial campaigns.
DioGuardi has collaborated with Grammy Award-winning artists Christina Aguilera, Santana, Kelly Clarkson, C?line Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Marc Anthony and Pink. The wait is almost over for the return of American Idol. As TV’s No.1 Show roars back with a two-night premiere, here’s what Idol fans can look forward to in the new season.
A New judge
This year sees big changes to the judge’s line up. Stepping in to replace original judge Paula Abdul is comedienne Ellen DeGeneres. The ever-funny, Emmy-winning talk show host joins the judging panel, sitting alongside returning judges Kara DoiGuardi, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson.
No stranger to the entertainment business, DeGeneres will offer her own unique perspective to the contestants throughout the competition. “I'm thrilled to be the new judge on American Idol”, explains DeGeneres. “I've watched since the beginning, and I've always been a huge fan.”
Celebrity-judges
In the audition cities, host Ryan Seacrest hosts and the judges will be joined by rotating celebrity-guests including Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Joe Jonas, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Shania Twain who will help select the Idol hopefuls worthy of the “Golden Ticket” to Hollywood.
Idol Gives Back Returns
American Idol will once again host Idol Gives Back in April. The Emmy-winning TV event aims at raising awareness and funds for various charities, including Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation are confirmed beneficiaries. In the previous seasons, the star-studded musical event made history by raising over $140 million for charity to date.
