FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world's largest express transportation company, received delivery of the first commercial diesel-electric hybrid trucks in Hong Kong. Manufactured by HINO and distributed by Crown Motors, the vehicles will contribute towards improving the city’s environment by reducing carbon output compared to conventional diesel vehicles.
Each FedEx HINO hybrid truck achieves 11.2 km/liter, the highest fuel efficiency performance in its class, according to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
The two FedEx Express hybrid trucks have commenced service on routes in the Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan and Mongkok districts in Hong Kong. Both vehicles are branded with the FedEx EarthSmart? logo, a symbol of FedEx commitment to connect the world in responsible and resourceful ways through industry-leading, environmentally friendly innovations.
FedEx now operates 329 hybrid electric and electric vehicles around the globe, and 2,100 alternative-fuel vehicles and equipment. The FedEx hybrid fleet has logged more than five million miles of revenue service since being introduced in 2004, reducing fuel use by 150,000 gallons and carbon dioxide emissions by 1,521 metric tons.
