“Thai Songs from the Harp Strings” will be the title of the concert by the harpists of the Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre which will be presented by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Thailand Cultural Centre, small auditorium, at 8 p.m.
This will be the first time that Thai music will be fused with the harp, making use of the versatility of the harp as a musical instrument. The program will consist of a variety of Thai compositions ranging from music from the classical Thai repertoire to modern and jazz, rounding off with His Majesty the King’s composition, the Kinari Suite, from the ballet Manohra, premiered in 1960.
The concert will also be to introduce the five-member Tamnak Prathom Youth Harp Ensemble which has been invited to play at the prestigious Annual Edinburgh International Harp Festival in April 2010. This will be their international debut performance.
Guest artist will include internationally-renown harpist, Wang Tong Juan, who will play her special arrangment of His Majesty the King’s well loved composition, Sai Fon. Another well-known guest artist will be Japanese violinist Miyoko Mitarai, who will play solo violin “Lao Damnern Sai” with the harp ensemble, and in duo of the all-time favourite Khmer Saiyoke.
