As part of the effort to create awareness of global climate change taking place in cities around the world, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok plans a special candlelit diner at three riverside restaurants to mark Earth Hour on 27 March 2010. The event is part of the CSR project that the hotel organises annually.
During the darkness on 27 March 2010 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., the hotel’s Angelini, NEXT2 and Salathip restaurants by the Chao Phraya River will offer a candlelit dinner. Chefs are proud to present variety of creative dishes using local products, and seasonal fruits and vegetables from the Royal Project in order to support the local farmers and help reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint and fuel consumption.
Angelini will offer a special menu with a “slow food” concept created by Italian Chef Marco Riva, and the riverside NEXT2 will have a special buffet menu using ingredients from a sustainable source. Chef Tussanee of Salathip will prepare authentic Thai dishes using products from the Royal Project Foundation for diners to enjoy their meal in the charming Thai-style teak pavilions and the romantic seating at the riverside terrace.
At the moment of the darkness (8:30 p.m.), guests will be invited to watch as the city and the hotel goes dim together at the appointed time and to celebrate the darkness as part of a fabulous experience.
Earth Hour is a global event organised by the WWF (the World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as the World Wildlife Fund). It is held on the last Saturday of March, and households and businesses are asked to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness of the need to take action on climate change.
