Department of Export Promotion and eBay, the world’s largest online marketplace, are offering Thai manufacturers and exporters the opportunity to learn how to expand their sales to new buyers globally with a free seminar called “Export to World Markets via E-Commerce, Expand Your Business Through eBay”. Conducted by certified eBay Education Specialist Napat Junyaprasert, the seminar will take place on March 30, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. until 12.00 p.m. at the meeting room on the 12th Floor, Department of Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, Sanambinnam, Nonthaburi.
According to Mrs. Srirat Rastapana, Director General, Department of Export Promotion (DEP), “we are pleased to be partnering with eBay to organise this seminar for Thai businesses. This seminar will be particularly beneficial for those who supply products such as Gems and Jewelry; Fashion and Apparel; Auto parts, and Home & Living products, as they will be able to learn about the e-commerce opportunities available in these high growth categories on eBay. Given the increasing global competition and economic challenges, it is necessary for businesses to find more cost-effective ways to expand their customer base in the international arena.”
“Thailand is one of eBay’s most active markets in cross border trade within Southeast Asia. In January 2010, the total value of goods transacted by Thai eBay users alone grew by 26 percent year-on-year”, added Oliver Hua, Chief Operating Officer, eBay Greater China, Southeast Asia and Japan.
“Globally, Automotive Parts and Accessories is a US$4.3 billion market on eBay. Other top categories include the Clothing and Accessories business, Home and Garden as well as the Jewellery and Watches business which hit US$5 billion, US$3.9 billion and US$2.2 billion annually on eBay. We encourage Thai businesses to take advantage of the strong demand in these product categories by eBay members worldwide, and create an innovative and efficient online sales channel through eBay,” he added.
In May 2009, eBay established a long-term and strategic partnership with the DEP to share knowledge, manpower, information and other resources for the development of e-commerce for Thai exporters. Under this joint effort, eBay and the DEP have worked together to educate Thai companies about the benefits of e-commerce and how to use it safely and successfully to expand their businesses internationally.
To encourage seminar participants to start selling successfully on eBay, there will also be a waiver of insertion fees for the first 100 eBay listings and selected features, plus a discount of up to 25 percent on fees for the first 100 payments received through PayPal, eBay’s affiliate company*.
