DEmark Award
With main objectives to give recognition to outstanding product design and to stimulate potential development of Thai designers, The Office of Product Value Promotion (OPVP), Department of Export Promotion, has created Demark Award to encourage Thai designers and entrepreneurs to submit their works to participate. For a third year in a row that this competition has been received good cooperation from The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO) in determining the judging criteria and inviting design experts to join and exchange expertise to leverage this award to be widely accepted in the international arena.
Dr Netpreeya Choomchaiyo, Director of the Office of Product Value Promotion said DEmark Award project is growing successfully in to the third year. Last year, we attracted up to 176 design works from 98 companies nationwide. There were 59 products from 39 companies that won DEmark Award 2009. Among these, 51 products from 34 companies received G-mark award in Japan.
“This year, we expect around 220 design products to participate. We invite expertise and representatives from government and private organizations as well as media to be among judge committee including professional design expert from Japan. We also invite well-known celebrity and designer, Mr Pipat Apirakthanakorn (Top), to be our presenter to promote this project.” said Dr Netpreeya.
“In addition to develop Thai design products to be distinguished and provide extensive marketing experience to our designers, OPVP’s goal is also to leverage DEmark brand to be well recognized and internationally accepted standards that guarantee quality and outstanding design. As such, our products can be more value added and that will have positive impact to our export sector to be more competitive in international market. Meanwhile, both Thai and foreign consumers will be assured in deciding confidently to buy Thai products since they will be satisfied with the excellence of quality and design. We, then, would like to encourage those interested designers to participate in this year competition”, reiterated Dr Netpreeya.
