Thai Airways International Public Company Limited launched “IT Sparkling for THAI’s 50th Anniversary: 1960-2010” project that introduces more modern information technology services for more ease and convenience for passengers and customers using THAI services.
Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, said that THAI’s “IT Sparkling” project is an extension of THAI’s Cabin Attendant Pre-Flight Study and Briefing System that won an Asia Pacific ICT Award 2009 (APICTA) under the Tourism and Hospitality Category in Australia. This project also won the Thailand ICT Awards EXPO 2009 under the Tourism and Hospitality Category for enabling crew members to prepare themselves prior to flight departure. The “IT Sparkling for THAI’s 50th Anniversary 1960-2010” is expanded from the cabin crew briefing system so that customers may access flight-related information with increased ease and convenience through mobile phone technology.
The “IT Sparkling for THAI’s 50th Anniversary: 1960-2010” project is as follows:
SMS Query provides automatic responses on flight-related information to passengers and customers on mobile phone. Information such as flight schedules, airfare promotions, mileage accrual, and THAI cargo and mail commercial will be made available.
Automatic Flight Information Service enables passengers and customers to access flight information, including flight departure and arrival, check their mileage accrual, and check their reservation using the “Speech Recognition” mode. Initially, this service will be available in Thai and will be extended to other languages in the future. Information will be sent as “Return SMS”.
Little Captain is a mobile game introduced to mark THAI’s 50th Anniversary. THAI will be the first airline in the world to develop a mobile game for passengers and customers using iPhone, iPod Touch and iPAD. A joint development of THAI and a game software company, game players will act as the captain flying the airplane to various destinations that THAI serves. Little Captain also has a flight monitor application which display status of the flight chosen by the player, including access to THAI promotional information and connection to www.mthaiairways.com.
Widgets/Gadgets and Web Script service with information on flights and THAI services is made available to website developers, blog developers or bloggers, social network builders, and others who wish to publicize information about THAI to their members.
Joining efforts on this special occasion, THAI, Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA), and Association of Thai ICT Industry (ATCI), encourage Thai software developers and software producers to embark into the airline industry with THAI supporting them with airline information and taking the developed software products to the wider audiences overseas. SIPA and ATCI’s cooperation are in the selection and sourcing of quality Thai software developers and software producers to work with THAI.
Dr. Jirasak Pongpisanupichit, Ph.D., Chairman of the Executive Board, Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA), said that SIPA is a public organization that was established to support the development of the software industry, innovation, and standardize software services. This cooperation signifies a new era where public and private sectors work together to further develop the Thai software industry, promoting and showcasing the work of highly-skilled Thai software developers in the international arena. SIPA continues to have projects in place to support the further advancement of these software developers, notably the THAI Cabin Attendant Pre-Flight Study and Briefing System, through platforms such as Thailand ICT Awards (TICTA), while the ATCI held a competition and supported representatives from Thailand to compete in the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA), which THAI won both awards under the Tourism and Hospitality Category, respectively. SIPA is honored to participate in THAI’s IT Sparkling project, in order to further contribute to the Thai software development industry that can be promoted internationally. SIPA thanked THAI for granting the opportunity for software developers and giving them important information to develop interesting products, while thanking ATCI for cooperating on creating a software product that supports the airline industry. Through THAI, the world has become more aware of the quality of Thai software development.
Mr. Bunruk Saraggananda, President, Association of Thai ICT Industry (ATCI), said that the “IT Sparkling for THAI’s 50th Anniversary: 1960-2010” project added strength to the national carrier by using modern information technology. ATCI and SIPA have joined together over the past 6-7 years to organize the Thailand ICT Awards, a competition participated by over 500 companies. The ATCI is pleased that a project such as “IT Sparkling for THAI’s 50th Anniversary: 1960-2010” has been introduced, giving Thai software developers the opportunity to learn more about and develop programs for the country’s airline industry.
The “IT Sparkling for THAI’s 50th Anniversary: 1960-2010” project was developed based on cooperation between THAI, Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA), and Association of Thai ICT Industry (ATCI). The project will further raise the standard and highlight the software industry of Thailand on an international level, with the potential for more revenue-earning for Thailand, in line with the Government’s “Strong Thailand” policy.
