Bangkok--31 Mar--Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit
In April, The Living Room at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, a Luxury Collection hotel, is delighted to welcome the return of jazz legend, Michael Veerapen to its venerable stage for an inspiring residency.
Michael Veerapen’s influence on jazz in Asia cannot be underestimated. The Malaysian pianist is a musical legend of our time and was instrumental in bringing world-class jazz to a wider audience.
Even before graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with summa cum laude in 1982, he had already made a name for himself as an up-and-coming pianist by working with some of the most renowned bands of the 70s. Together with drummer Lewis Pragasam, he organized Malaysia’s first jazz-rock concert in 1978, which succeeded in bringing the genre to a new audience.
His return to Malaysia from Berklee College of Music in 1982 saw Michael open a bar called "All That Jazz" which soon acquired a reputation as the home of the Malaysian jazz scene. Michael went on to enjoy an illustrious career as a jazz pianist, composer, musical director of Malaysia’s top performers, and owner of a successful music production company. He has traveled around the world performing at jazz festivals and concerts, earning the greatest respect from fellow musicians at home and abroad.
Michael Veerapen will perform at The Living Room for the month of April. He will be joined by Shawn Kelley on drums and Therdsak Wongvichien on bass. Catch them Tuesday — Thursday from 21.00 — 23.45 hours, Friday — Saturday from 21.30 — 00.15 hours and Sunday Jazzy Brunch from 12.00 — 14.45 hours.
