Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is delighted to invite guests to come and experience an exclusive Henschke 5-Course Wine Dinner at Lord Jim’s on Tuesday 27 April 2010.
Harvested from the Barossa and Eden Valleys in the Barossa Ranges located in South Australia, the Henschke Family has cultivated and produced wine since 1861 when Johann Christian Henschke arrived in the valley escaping religious persecution in Germany. He purchased an orchid and vineyard for his family, however after the popularity of the wine Johann Christian went ahead and created a commercial vintage in 1868. From this single initiation into wine making, history was made.
Each generation has continued to build upon the reputation for quality and this drive for success reached a landmark in 1958 with fourth-generation Cyril Alfred Henschke who created the wine that dazzled the wine connoisseur’s imagination: Hill of Grace. His son Stephen Henschke and his wife Prue continue to uphold the family name and reputation, as winemaker and viticulturist, respectively.
The highly revered and much sought after Hill of Grace is the pinnacle of the red wines. Therefore it comes as no surprise that it is the highlight of the wine dinner showcasing five separate wines. The Hill of Grace 1998, Eden Valley, a deep velvet-hued, full bodied Shiraz accentuated with fruits paired together with the sharp aroma of spices, is a special wine that guests will have the opportunity to enjoy coupled with the delicious cuisine at Lord Jim’s.
A few of the dishes that have been specially created by our Residential Chef Stefan Trepp for the 5-course dinner include the following: Light Marinated Scallop Ceviche on Pink Pepper and Passion Fruit Jelly and Reblochon Cheese in Warm Walnut and Honey Sauce, Dried Apricot Ice Cream and Aged Balsamic Macaroon.
