Splendor on the River
The vibrancy of the Chao Phraya river is an inspiration for many Thai artists, none more so than Vorasan Supap, who originally from northeast of Thailand. Vorasan’s latest works focus on the Thai-style Eum-jun boat people living and working along the Chao Phraya river.
His new exhibition, entitled “Splendor on the River”, includes a series of his great pieces of all vibrant oil on canvas waterscapes that capture the beauty of traditional boats as well as providing a moving insight into the all-encompassing power of the river that is a life force for Bangkok and its people.
"The colours that I chose come from my mind," said Vorasan, "I don't want to follow nature or copy the scene or the scale of the boat, but rather express my feeling at the time of painting, and my feeling toward the subject. Colour answers my question and before I paint I ask myself, what colour and atmosphere I want to create."
With waterscapes created over the last few years, the works illustrate how Vorasan has truly found the means by which to fully demonstrate his mind and emotion.
