Bangkok--30 Apr--A.P. Honda The Over All Motorcycle Market Grew and Closed the First Quarter at 133% A.T. Motorcycle Reached Its Peak at 139% Growth Fuel Injection System Invention Swept 54% of Market Share The over all motorcycle market closed its first quarter with an impressive growth; Automatic Transmission (A.T.) motorcycle reached its peak while PGM-FI swept a larger share. Ending the first quarter with a 133-per-cent growth, the sales growth has signaled a positive market in coming summer for motorcycle industry. There were 466,415 units of new motorbike registered in the first quarter, 169,420 of which were registered in March alone — an 18-per-cent rise from February. Automatic Transmission motorcycle (A.T.) again reached its peak at 139 per cent. The sales of A.T. type rose from 46 per cent last year to 48 per cent, matching with bestselling family type this year. The PGM-FI invention is still growing. Sweeping a larger market share at 54 per cent, Honda has decided to stimulate more campaigns on PGM-FI invention directly to the teenage customers, after producing only motorcycles equipped with PGM-FI technology for every market segment. New choices of colours will be added to the market in the second quarter. “The 133-per-cent growth in the over all motorcycle market, or 466,415 units of new bike registration at the ending of the first quarter is a good sign for all. The sales rose by 115,396 units from 351,019 units sold during the same period last year. Being in line with the rise, Honda’s growth has gone up to 144 per cent. With a total of 326,601 units sold in the first quarter, Honda swept 70 per cent of the market share,” says Teerapat Chivaphong, sales director of AP Honda. The drastic growth of the A.T. model — sharing a 48-per-cent market share with the family type — is a result of a larger competition. A larger choice of A.T. models has recently been launched by various manufacturers and more sales promotion has been pushed in the market. A.T. motorcycle expects to continue to stimulate the over all market. From a total of 222,375 units of A.T. model sold in the first quarter of the over all market, there were 125,855 units from Honda, which is 57 per cent market share. Yamaha took 41 per cent while Suzuki earned 2 per cent. Honda welcomes the second quarter with new collection of colours for three models: new white for Honda PCX; brown-and-black, blue, and pink-and-black for Honda Click i; and yellow-and-black for Fun series, blue-and-white for Cute series, and red-and-brown for Prestige series of Honda Scoopy i. As a market leader, Honda held “Scoopy D-Day” campaign throughout April through dealers nationwide, encouraging teenagers doing good deeds in their own unique way everyday. In March, 169,420 units were sold, divided into 83,011 units of A.T. type or 49 per cent; 78,635 units of family type, or 46 per cent; 3,983 units of family/sport type, or 2 per cent; 1,091 units of sport type, or 1 per cent; and 2,700 units of off-road and other types, or 1 per cent. Categorised the sales by the manufacturers, 117,626 units were sold by Honda, or equivalent to 69 per cent; 41,705 units by Yamaha, or 25 per cent; 5,893 units by Suzuki, or 3 per cent; 2,418 units by Kawasaki; 23 units by JRD; 58 units by Platinum; 189 units by Tiger; and 1,508 units by others.
