Bangkok--7 May--Aziam Burson-Marsteller FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world's largest express transportation company, now provides best-in-class service for shipments from Hong Kong to the U.S. and Europe with the launch of two new flights: its first Boeing 777 Freighter (777F) service non-stop from Hong Kong to the FedEx Super Hub in Memphis, Tennessee, and a new direct service from Hong Kong to its European hub in Paris, France. Best-in-Class to the U.S. Customers sending shipments with FedEx to the east coast of the U.S. now benefit from a two-hour improvement in cut-off time for International Priority? and International Economy? shipments from Hong Kong. The new call-in cut-off time is 18:18[1] hours. This improvement is brought about by the launch of the company’s first non-stop connection between Hong Kong and the FedEx Super Hub in Memphis, Tennessee, made possible by the deployment of a long-range 777F to serve the route. As a result, FedEx now offers the best cut-off times in the market for shipments to both the east and west coast to the U.S. (including Canada, Latin and South American markets). Enhanced Connectivity to Europe FedEx customers doing business with Europe can now enjoy overnight delivery from Hong Kong to key cities in major European markets — including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. This service represents a one-business-day improvement in transit time on International Priority? shipments[2] to Europe. The enhanced service is enabled by the launch of the company’s new direct connection from Hong Kong to the FedEx European hub at Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris. Supporting Customer Business Growth “FedEx is committed to providing customers with greater access to markets and opportunities in the U.S. and Europe, as businesses in Hong Kong and in the Asia Pacific region start to emerge from the global economic downturn,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, Asia Pacific, FedEx Express. “These two service enhancements will strengthen FedEx overall network connectivity and operations, positioning the company for long term growth.” “With the best cut-off times for U.S. shipments and overnight connectivity to Europe, FedEx offers competitive services for our customers here in Hong Kong and supports their need for business growth and development,” Cunningham added. The Hong Kong economy is expected to grow between four and five percent this year[3]. Under a gradually improving economy in the U.S. last year, the total value of trade between the U.S. and Hong Kong was US$54.9 billion in 2009[4]; while the European Union (EU) was Hong Kong’s second-largest export market in 2009, generating US$39.5 billion. The EU GDP registered positive figures on quarter-to-quarter GDP growth in the later half of 2009[5]. The air cargo market between Asia and Europe is expected to expand at an average annual rate of 6.5% in the next two decades.[6] FedEx deployed its first 777F to support the strong demand for a direct Shanghai-to-Memphis service in early January this year. 777F Background The 777F is the world’s largest twin-engine cargo aircraft. In typical FedEx operations, the aircraft offers a payload improvement of 14,000 pounds and range improvement of 2,100 nautical miles over similarly arranged MD-11Fs, which until now has been the primary long-haul aircraft in the company's fleet. In addition to service enhancements, the freighter delivers environmental benefits to FedEx operations. The aircraft’s engine technology reduces emissions by 18 percent. Investment in its aircraft fleet is an important part of the FedEx commitment to reduce its CO2 aircraft emissions by 20% by 2020[7]. FedEx Express is the first U.S.-based, global, all-cargo freight airline to add the 777F to its fleet and has placed the largest order for the aircraft model to date. Currently, a total of four 777Fs serve routes between Asia and the U.S. There will be 15 777Fs in the company’s fleet by the end of fiscal 2014. FedEx Express has a second order of 15 777Fs, which will be delivered between fiscal 2014 and fiscal 2019, and holds options on 15 more. About FedEx FedEx Corp.
