Bangkok--19 May--NFS On Wednesday May 26th NFS members and guests are in for a very special presentation during our weekly networking luncheon held at Los Cabos restaurant on Sukhumvit soi 14 ( 2 minutes walking distance from Asoke BTS/MRT). Erich Fleshman actor, coach and film director in Bangkok recently created a much talked about documentary about Thai cinema, featuring the colourful and long running history of Siamese films and especially portraying a struggling industry in its hiccupping attempts to move forward. His documentary initially examines the past and fast forwards on the present film industry...posing a crucial question to the viewer and showing why those involved have their hands tied up with a myriad of issues. The result is a catalyst leading all viewers to a discussion about Thailand’s role in the global film economy. Besides obvious current political tensions Erich will expose multiple underlying barriers for those involved in films in this potentially prolific environment! Fleshman has been involved in all possible aspects of acting, working with other actors as well as production for local and international feature films and television dramas. He also works as a film professor teaching acting and film in many of Thailand's top universities. Erich is fluent in Thai, served as William Hurt's cultural liaison helping him understand the Thai culture and their unique spiritual beliefs in preparation for a role, has been retained by multiple foreign productions as a consultant for both language and cultural issues, and is one of the few foreigners to reach celebrity status in Thailand through his involvement in local television and feature films. He will raise the following controversial questions during his presentation: - Explain the main characteristics of the Thai Film Industry? - What are the factors making the Thai film industry stagnant ? - His opinion of Thai directors nowadays? - Does censorship really work? - Why comedies and horror movies dominate the Thai screens? - Measures to improve the Thai film industry and that will generate success for Thai directors?
