Bangkok--21 May--SET Thai bourse assures trading & related systems fully operational despite building damage The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is fully able to trade securities and conduct related activities as usual despite the May 19 fire related to unrest, SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai revealed after meeting with the SET chairman and other top executives. Engineering Institute of Thailand and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration officials had previously verified the area and found no structural damage to the building. Most of the damage was only at the SET’s exhibition hall and parts of SET’s library; all essential systems are safe and repairs should be completed shortly. SET’s backup systems were properly operating during May 17-19 and have not been damaged. The market closed on May 20-21 because of the unrest, not because of fire damage to SET. SET is coordinating with the Association of Securities Companies and brokerages in preparing to resume operations on May 24. The official announcement for the operation schedule will be on May 23.
