Thai bourse returns to normal trading hours from May 24 on

ข่าวเศรษฐกิจ Monday May 24, 2010 10:28 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--24 May--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will resume normal trading periods on May 24 on, with both its normal morning (10.00-12.30 hours) and afternoon (14.30-16.30 hours) sessions, SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai revealed. This decision includes the Market for Alternative Investment, Bond Electronic Exchange, and Thailand Futures Exchange, and was reached by the SET board after evaluating the situation with the Association of Securities Companies' chairman. The reasons for the resumption are that the overall political situation has improved, Bangkok's mass transit systems have reopened, and commercial banks will resume normal operation from May 24. Trading and all other significant systems of SET and brokers are ready for normal business from May 24 onwards. SET has backups for trading, clearing and settlement, and related systems that will ensure that all processes can be executed as usual, and has closely coordinated testing its systems with those of brokers. In addition, the fire damage on the first floor of the SET Building, 62 Ratchadapisek Road, Bangkok, does not affect trading operations, as SET had prepared for situations where the Ratchadapisek building was inaccessible, as happened on May 17-19, said Ms. Patareeya.
