Thai alternative bourse firms recorded Q1/2010 net profits, up 13% over year-ago period

Bangkok--25 May--SET Listed companies in the Thai bourse’s Market for Alternative Investment (mai) posted total net profits in Q1/2010 of THB 488 million (USD 15.06 million), 13% up year-on-year (y-o-y), while three out of four firms made profits. Sixty mai-listed companies have reported their Q1/2010 operating results as of March 31, 2010. Total net profits were THB 488 million (USD 15.06 million), 13% up on a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, though down 16% from Q4/2009. Total sales and gross profit margins were THB 12.69 billion (USD 0.39 billion) and 21% respectively, basically unchanged from Q1/2009 and Q4/2009. The favorable y-o-y overall operating results were due to the global economic recovery, led by the manufacturing companies, revealed SET Group Head, Issuer & Listing and mai President Chanitr Charnchainarong. On the other hand, companies offering contracting and professional services were much affected by project delays and delayed recognition of revenue. Out of 46 companies that made profits, nine showed strong recoveries. Four firms were especially outstanding, with sales rising y-o-y and quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q), net profits (excluding profits from sales of investment) up y-o-y and q-o-q, and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increasing q-o-q: Asia Green Energy PCL (AGE), Sherwood Chemicals PCL (SWC), Thanasiri Group PCL (THANA), and UBIS (Asia) PCL (UBIS). The remaining five firms had strong recoveries in net profits y-o-y and q-o-q, and EBITDA rises q-o-q: Dhanamitr Factoring PCL (DM), Jubilee Enterprise PCL (JUBILE), Master Ad PCL (MACO), Salee Industry PCL (SALEE), Thai Polycons PCL (TPOLY), In addition, eleven firms had made profits every quarter for ten consecutive quarters or more since listing on mai. These firms were: BGT Corporation PCL (BGT), Business Online PCL (BOL), Eternity Grand Logistics PCL (ETG), Goldfine Manufacturers PCL (GFM), Interlink Communication PCL (ILINK), Star Sanitaryware PCL (STAR), Thai Nondestructive Testing PCL (TNDT), Thai Nakarin Hospital PCL (TNH), Thai Plaspac PCL (TPAC), UBIS (Asia) PCL (UBIS), and Unimit Engineering PCL (UEC). As of May 24, 2010, the mai Index closed at 203.74, with a total THB 37.20 billion (USD 1.15 billion) market capitalization.
