To showcase the GSS as a sale and more, this year's GSS will be officially launched with an event that is both exciting and experiential, and one that will encapsulate the essence of the GSS. Entitled `Your Great Singapore Sale Experience’, the Launch Event will give Singapore and international teams the opportunity to enjoy incredible saving that can be found at Sale, as well as fun and exciting lifestyle experiences in Orchard Road, Marina Bay and Southern Waterfront as they compete for the grand prize of S$10,000 in the Singapore and International categories respectively.
To be flagged off at 2.30pm on Saturday, 29 May in front of Wisma Atria, teams of 2 will each be given shopping money of S$1,000 to go on a 4-hour shopping spree to grab the best bargains from a choice of participating malls, as well as visit iconic attractions / landmarks to perform a choice of tasks for photo opportunities and a Great Singapore Sale experience. The winning team from each category that completes the challenge with the most dollar savings will walk away with the grand prize of S$ 10,000, and all participating teams will get to keep their purchases and photos of their experiences.

He added that shopping remains a key tourism pillar in Singapore. It was the highest tourist expenditure item at S$3.1 billion in 2009.

With MasterCard as the Official Card of the GSS for the seventh consecutive year, MasterCard cardholders can not only look forward to MasterCard-exclusive offers at over 120 establishments again this year, but also to making meaningful purchases.
For every transaction made on a MasterCard card during the GSS, MasterCard will make a contribution to the Singapore Children's Society to benefit needy children in Singapore. Part of MasterCard's ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts, the MasterCardฎ Purchase with PurposeTM programme enables consumers to play a part in giving back to the community when they use their MasterCard cards, and help contribute to a good cause while they perform their everyday activities.
