This high profile event was attended by some 150 senior government officials from a wide range of ministries, departments and state agencies, who came to gain information on the latest insights about cloud computing and advanced IT solutions that are appropriate of the public sector. In addition to HP senior executives and leading technologists, the attendees had the opportunity to hear from executives from event partner organizations. The event was delivered under the theme of “Discovering Emerging Technology toward Trustworthy Partnership”.
“The public sector is one of the most important consumers of enterprise IT hardware, software and services and, as such, we believe that it is important that this type of specially focused event be organized so they can exchange ideas and experience with each other as well as hear from industry representatives,” said Dr. Beng Teck Liang, Managing Director and General Manager of HP Enterprise Business, Hewlett-Packard (Thailand) Ltd. “From our perspective this event is a great opportunity to introduce senior government decision makers to HP and our range of tailored solutions for the public sector in a friendly relaxed environment. It also allows us to share the HP point of view on the state of IT in general and cloud computing in particular.”
In its extensive public sector experience, HP has identified “the presence of a ‘digital divide’ among various government ministries and departments. The fact is that there are some elements in the public sector that have excellent IT resources that are on the leading edge of enterprise technology. On the other hand there are some departments that do not have up to date or appropriate technology and this creates problems in terms of intra-governmental connectivity. Today the divide has the potential to be bridged by cloud computing. By creating a governmental cloud, departments that may not have the latest technology can leverage Internet protocols to interface with more technically advanced departments in a seamless virtual environment,” continued Dr. Beng.
In support of the creation of a governmental cloud, HP offers a full range of cloud technology solutions that are specifically designed for the needs of government departments. These solutions are based on HP’s concept of ‘Converged Infrastructure’, which seeks to overcome the problem of technology clutter by creating a total solution in one ‘box’, including server, storage and networking devices, as well as software and services that are designed to function together and offer a lower total cost of ownership than systems in which individual components are acquired separately.
