Bangkok--4 Jun--Indorama Ventures Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL), has officially opened its massive 432,000 tons a year PET resin plant, AlphaPet Inc, at Decatur, Alabama, USA. The opening ceremony was attended by State Senator for Alabama, Mr. Arthur Orr and Mr. Kosit Panpiemras, Chairman of Bangkok Bank in Thailand as well many local dignitaries and guests. The opening marked the start-up of AlphaPet Line 2 and propels the Indorama Group as the world’s largest Polyester company. The plant, which is co-located on the site of BP Chemical’s PTA facility in Decatur, Alabama, will serve North America with high quality PET resin, used in the manufacture of drinks bottles and other consumer goods packaging. AlphaPet, one of the largest PET manufacturing sites in the United States, employs state-of-the-art Melt-To-Resin (MTR?) technology provided under license by Uhde Inventa Fischer of Germany. The use of MTR? technology has a number of advantages over conventional PET technologies including significant capital and operational savings, reduced energy consumption and a smaller environmental footprint. With AlphaPet, Indorama Ventures is providing Alabama with employment during a period of global economic downturn. Moreover, throughout the 850,000 construction hours, there were no injuries, in keeping with IVL’s excellent health and safety standards and those of its contractors. For journalists: PET is Polyethylene terephthalate, a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family and is used in synthetic fibers; beverage, food and other liquid containers.
