Bangkok--7 Jul--Huawei Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, won two top awards in LTE development at the LTE World Summit 2010 in the Netherlands. The two awards - "Significant Progress for a Commercial Launch of LTE by a Vendor" and "Best Contribution to Research & Development for LTE" - represented the verdict of a group of independent judges in the summit, which drew over 1,000 attendees from across the LTE ecosystem. Ying Weimin, Huawei's President of LTE Product Line, said: "Huawei has invested heavily in the development of the LTE industry since 2004, and our efforts have helped operators worldwide create successful business models that are capable of generating profits and satisfying demand for ubiquitous broadband access." As of March 2010, Huawei has been awarded more than 60 LTE contracts, including nine commercial LTE contracts. The company has dedicated sizable shares of its resources to the development of LTE technology alongside various partners. Today, Huawei holds the record for developing the world's fastest LTE network, which boasts a download speed as high as 1.2Mbps. Huawei also recently linked up with Portuguese mobile operator TMN to show examples of advanced LTE technology in everyday life. These demonstrations revealed a wide range of business opportunities for operators and content providers, and a glimpse of the potential of this high-speed wireless data transmission technology. In another development, Huawei and Telstra - a major mobile operator from Australia - successfully collaborated to test the deployment of an LTE network based on the 1800MHz spectrum, which is currently used as a basis for many 2G GSM networks around the world. This test proves that LTE technology can be deployed on a wide range of frequency spectrums, including ones widely in use today, and thus is a remarkable achievement in network resource utilization.
