Honda exports in first half of 2010 grow 65%

Bangkok--27 Jul--Aziam Burson-Marsteller Asian Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Honda’s Bangkok-based Asia & Oceania Regional Headquarters, today announced the export statistics of Honda’s products from Thailand for the second quarter and the first half of 2010. Honda's exports from Thailand in Q2 2010 reached 25,474 million baht with 67% growth, compared to the same period last year. Combined with Q1 results, total Honda exports for the first 6 months in 2010 were 51,688 million baht, a 65% increase over the same period last year. Mr. Fumihiko Ike, President & CEO, Asian Honda Motor Co. Ltd., said “The export performance from Thailand in first half of 2010 showed good signs of an ongoing recovery. Honda believes that the Thai economy has the potential for growth with positive export expansion. Honda anticipated that for the full year 2010 total Honda’s exports would reach 90,000 baht, 27% up from last year. Due to the solid production base as well as the significant growth in the Thailand market, Honda plans to start production of an eco-car with excellent fuel economy in Thailand next year and these will be exported to other ASEAN nations. Later this year, Honda will also introduce an all-new sports model of motorcycle to the Thai market, which will then be exported to many countries worldwide as well.” Automobiles: Total exports of automobile CBU and CKD products in Q2 increased 88% by value to 16,228 million baht. Combined with Q1, total exports of CBU and CKD automobiles in the first half of 2010 were up 72% by value to 31,974 million Baht. Honda CBU exports in Q2 reached 17,294 units an increase of 174%, and significantly strong value growth of 148% to 9,160 million Baht due in part to recovery of market demand particularly in Australia and Asia. Total exports of CBU in the first six months of 2010 reached 33,638 units or a positive 82% by value to 17,954 million Baht. Jazz is the best export model with 7,571 units, followed by City 7,312 units, Civic 7,201 units CR-V 6,742 units and Accord 4,802 units. Automobile CKD exports in Q2 were also significantly improved with an increase of 43% by value to 7,068 million Baht, thanks to production recovery in many countries in the region. Combined with Q1, total automobile CKD exports increased 62% by value to 14,020 million baht. Motorcycles: Total motorcycle CBU and CKD export value in Q2 reached 5,454 million baht, 46% up compared to the same period last year. Motorcycle CBU and CKD export value in first half of 2010 reached 10,620 million baht, 48% up from the same period last year. Honda started exporting PCX to many countries in Europe, Japan, Korea, Indonesia and the USA from early this year. This contributed significantly to the growth of CBU exports which reached 19,422 units, an increase of 243% by value to 1,178 million baht. Due to the market expansion in Vietnam and Indonesia motorcycle CKD exports increased 38% by value to 9,442 million baht. Power Products: Thailand is Honda’s largest export production base for power products. Currently, Honda exports a wide range of power products to over 80 countries worldwide with important markets in USA and Europe. Exports of power products including CBU and CKD components in Q2 increased 54% by volume to 481,068 units and 47% by value to 2,838 million Baht. For the first half of 2010, total exports of Honda power products were up 59% by volume to 974,104 units and 52% by value to 5,732 million baht. Others: In addition, Honda also exports spare parts, accessories, dies and molds from Thailand to many countries worldwide. Total exports of these products in Q2 2010 reached 953 million baht. Total exports of spare parts, accessories, dies and molds in the first six months of 2010 were up 77% by value to 3,362 million baht.
