Bangkok--29 Jul--PTT PTT Public Company Limited, represented by Mr. Prajya Phinyawat, Chief Operating Officer, Downstream Petroleum Business Group, in cooperation with the National Innovation Agency (NIA), the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) attended the MOU signing ceremony and press conference of “ The use of PBS bioplastic bags in sorting out organic garbage to produce organic fertilizers at Samed Island Project” to preserve an environment around the area by using bioplastic garbage bags which are produced from the compound of PLA and PBS with its elasticity that could naturally decompose to help produce organic fertilizers. It is expected that about 100 tons of organic garbage would be eradicate monthly and 1,600 tons of carbons, the cause of global warming, would be reduced yearly. Mr. Prajya Phinyawat said, “PTT Group and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation have cooperated in supporting an operation of garbage transmute to bring the most benefits back to community by using biodegradable plastic bags in sorting out organic garbage to produce organic fertilizers. The biodegradable plastic is produced from compound of PLA and PBS with its elasticity that could naturally decompose within 6 months. Therefore, it is suitable to be use in sorting out organic garbage and produce the organic fertilizer. This would help reducing environmental effect on island as well as increasing local income from selling organic fertilizer. PTT together with MCC have funded the construction of a fermentation plant while PTTPM would be a provider of plastic pellets that is needed in a production of plastic bag. In addition, this pilot project is related to PTT’s Green Society policy which pays attention in all aspect of operation from an environmental-friendly production process (Green Process) that has safety and quality monitoring measure on occupational health and environment. Green Plant will lead to the production of Green Product with no harm to consumer’s health. Besides the common Green Products of PTT Group that made up from natural materials such as Biodiesel, NGV, and Gasohol, bioplastic is the new alternative. It can be produced from agricultural products such as sugar cane, corn or tapioca and is able to naturally decompose easing the global warming problem. Recognizing this potential quality including value added to agricultural products, PTT Group continuously explores the development of production and marketing strategy to be able to compete in the world market. We expect to answer the demand of our consumers with proper materials and technology, safety and environmental-friendly concept.”
