Webster University Thailand commemorated the graduation of the Royal Thai Scholars from the specially designed American Preparatory Program by celebrating the momentous occasion with a certificate ceremony attended by the Provincial Governor of Petchaburi, Mr. Chai Phanitchaphonphan, the Secretary General of Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC), Mrs.Benchawan Srangnitra and Mr. Ratish Thakur, Rector of Webster University Thailand at the Holiday Inn Regent Beach Cha-Am on the 16th of July 2010.
The American Preparatory Program, which was commissioned by Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC), Thailand for Webster University Thailand to host, incorporated in-class academic courses and extra curricular activities to prepare the Royal Thai Scholars for their future studies in America.
The academic component of the program included courses in research and research writing, development of English language competency and understanding the cultures of the United States. To balance the program, many extracurricular activities were held in conjunction such as bowling, mini softball camps, American style cooking classes, lessons in Latin American dance and a BBQ pool party.
Of the group of 22 Scholars that will pursue higher educations overseas, eight students will pursue doctoral level programs, four will complete both a Masters degree followed by a doctoral degree, and the remaining students will pursue a master’s degree. All of these students have been admitted to some of the finest Universities in the United States and Canada, such as Cornell University, UC Davis, The Pennsylvania State University, and they have chosen programs of significant difficulty. Upon completion of their programs they will bring home very high levels of ability and knowledge to contribute to Thailand.
The OCSC annually offers the brightest Scholars scholarships for further studies at the institution of their choosing, so that they will bring knowledge and advancements to the Kingdom of Thailand. Of the group of 22, most have chosen to be professors at prestigious Thai Universities upon completion of their education overseas.
