Ministry of Science and Technology makes a statement to open “National Science and Technology Fair 2010”

Bangkok--9 Aug--MOST Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) cooperates with National Science Museum (NSM) in making a statement to open “National Science and Technology Fair 2010” the greatest science and technology event of the year under the concept “Towards a better society with science and Technology” on the whole area of 42,000 square meter of the Exhibition and Convention Center BITEC Bangna during 7 — 22 August 2010. The expected visitor number is around 1,000,000 persons. Target groups are students, young people, families and people from every part of Thailand. This event receives cooperation from related domestic and overseas organizations both in government and private sectors. Peeranee Kongthai (Matt) and Arkapan Namat (Om), the 2 new superstars are also presenters of this year event. Dr.Weerachai Weerametheekul, Minister of Science and Technology said that National Science and Technology Fair 2010 is held by Ministry of Science and Technology with the cooperation of other related domestic and overseas organizations both in government and private sectors during the National Science Week to commemorate His Majesty King Mongkut as the “Father of Thai Science” by organizing the exhibition to honor the “Father of Thai Science” and also to commemorate His Majesty King Bhumibol as the “Father of Thai Technology” and “Father of Thai Innovation”. This event is the largest event of the year that exhibit progress and potential in terms of sophisticated science and technology of Thailand in order to initiate awareness for researchers, scientists and general people especially Thai youth who will grow up to become the main force of Thailand in the future about the use of scientific knowledge to routine life and the global warming crisis which everyone should take part in solving. This year event is truly a grand event with exhibitions and special activities to honor the royal family members who have an important role in the field of science and technology including the awarding ceremony for outstanding scientist, the science contest and competition all over the country, the meeting and seminar and exhibition of science and technology products. In addition, this event is also held to celebrate International Year of Biodiversity and the 50th anniversary of laser by employing new technology in exhibiting, sharing experience and introducing new learning attitude through interactive media. 3D Movie and 4D Simulator will also be shown in this event to create happiness and fun in learning efficiently, Dr.Suchinda Chotipanich, permanent secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology added that this grand event is held with the cooperation of 7 ministries, including Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science and Technology, and 30 agencies from universities and educational institutes together with more than 10 works from overseas and around 100 works from private sector, associations and shops attending in the grand National Science and Technology Fair of this year. This event consists of totally 8 zones of exhibitions and activities: Royal Pavilion which honors the genius in science and technology of His Majesty King Mongkut “Father of Thai Science” and His Majesty King Bhumibol “Father of Thai Technology” and other royal family members; Main Pavilion which provides knowledge and understanding and creates awareness for people in the society about global crisis, biodiversity, technology for disabilities, light and laser, nanotechnology, digital world, robot or automatic technology, food and health, forensic science and activities for youth. In addition, there are pavilions of ministry’s agencies, other countries, universities and educational institutes, private sector, associations, councils and clubs. Dr. Pichai Sonchang, Director of National Science Museum, the organizer of this event affirms strongly that the venue and infrastructure systems, traffic system within the event area, security and first aid, reception and queuing system as well as experienced officers to facilitate visitors that come in group are extremely well prepared and ready to welcome more than one million visitors. In particular for this year, NSM has committed the marketing strategy in advance by inviting around 400 schools from all over the country. Now the reservation has been made by group visitors in total of 500,000 persons. It is estimated that there will be visitors this year around 1.2 million persons which reflects the success of last year event that results in this year reservation rate. National Science and Technology Fair 2010 has been improved from last year to make it more sophisticated with activities that everyone can participate and enjoy. The main interesting exhibitions and activities include the Royal Pavilion which presents the genius and talent of His Majesty King Bhumibol, Father of Thai Technology and Innovation, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and other royal family members, World Crisis, presenting the cause of global warming and global crisis that occurs as its result through the 4D Simulator of the survival experience on rescue boat that provides the unforgettable excitement of all senses. Biodiversity presents the wonder of life through the model of natural route from under the deep sea up to top of the mountain that allows visitors to learn more about the different ecology systems, such as, coral reef, wetland beach and mangrove forest. Become exciting with different kinds of butterfly that fly all around trees, flowers and us in the World of Butterfly. In the Panorama Theatre in the middle of the wood, your imagination will be opened with the 4D Simulator of the real atmosphere in the wood that let you feel the mist on your face and feel the gentle rain fall on your body. Moreover, you can’t miss the Jurassic Robot Talk Show from Japan which is shown for the first time in Thailand under the title “Evolution, Beginning or Ending of Biodiversity” together with the multi-media presentation. Forensic Science is where you can improve your skill, knowledge and understanding about forensic science that is drawing attention of Thai people at present by joining a young forensic scientist team in a model room to practice, experiment and observe by using science in solving a mystery and to think and analyze things more systematically. (by examining the killing weapon, cause of death, time of death, details of dead person, suspected person or anything else) Light and Laser celebrates the 50th anniversary of laser with a huge Laser Dome that presents the evolution from light to laser and crucial benefit of laser toward medical technology innovation, such as, new minimal invasive surgery or Lasik surgery as well as toward the industry or technology innovation around us from DVD Player, distance measuring equipment to security system. Experiment Station on “Light Property” presents the magic of refraction of light and 3D visualization in 3D Theater. Learn about the refraction of light and experience the magic of light within the miracle twin, kaleidoscope and one way mirror rooms Technology for Disabilities presents the meaning, limitation and category of disability to create knowledge and understanding through experience on the equality world. Visitors can try perceiving with other senses, such as, hearing aid device and learn how to communicate with hand language and try reading Braille code and translating its meaning. See the innovative inventions for equality and enhance the opportunity for disabilities to live normally in the society as well as normal people. Exhibition from abroad, such as, tiger exhibition from China, aviation exhibition from Finland and other interesting exhibitions like nanotechnology — experience and learn about nanotechnology in daily life, digital world — learn about the evolution of digital system, food and health — learn about oriental way of living from food and medicine both Thai and Chinese, youth activities area — activities area for pre-school kids and scientific laboratory.
