Bangkok--9 Aug--DC Consultants and Marketing Communications ICC International Plc, distributors of Wacoal lingerie products, is launching the Wacoal Pink Ribbon 2010 campaign to encourage screening for breast cancer by mammogram and ultrasound examination. In its “Wacoal Cares Your Breasts. Mammogram Saves Your Life.” project, Wacoal has the cooperation of the National Cancer Institute, Bangkok Hospitals and Samitivej Hospital. Wacoal customers will also receive privileges from the campaign from August to the end of October 2010. “Statistics show a worrying increase in the number of Thai women suffering or dying from breast cancer,” said Dr Mongkol Na Songkhla, Chairman of the Wacoal Pink Ribbon 2010 campaign. “It is one of the main causes of death in Thai women, and it is being found in women of younger and younger age. This is why it is vital for women to know how to examine their breasts and to receive regular diagnosis by medical specialists.” This is the 10th consecutive year of the Wacoal Pink Ribbon campaign, which is part of ICC’s commitment to return benefit to Thai women, who have been buying Wacoal products for four decades, said Thamarat Chokwatana, Director and Executive Vice President of ICC International Plc. “We’re offering a mammogram as an additional service in this year’s campaign,” he said. “The best protection against breast cancer is early detection, and a mammogram can detect breast cancer before it can be detected by hand and when it can be cured.” To encourage more women to accept the examination, Wacoal is also offering special privileges to its customers from August 1 to October 31, 2010. For every purchase of 3,000 baht per receipt, customers can buy a mammogram & ultrasound card at a net service fee of 1,000 baht. For every purchase of 6,000 baht per receipt, customers will receive the card for free. Examinations are provided at the National Cancer Institute, all branches of Bangkok Hospital, and the Sriracha and Srinakharin branches of Samitivej Hospital until December 31, 2010. “We’d like women to pay more attention to their breast health, because the earlier the disease is found, the more likelihood there is that it will be cured. Our hope is that the Wacoal Pink Ribbon 2010 campaign will help to make the prevention of breast cancer more effective,” said Thamarat. The Wacoal Pink Ribbon campaign against breast cancer was initiated in 2000 in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Her Royal Highness, the late Princess Mother. In that year, Wacoal donated funds to buy mammogram equipment for the Breast Foundation under the Patronage of HRH the Princess Mother, as well as funds for the Head, Neck and Breast Surgery division of the Department of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. The campaign has also donated Asia’s first full-field Digital Mammogram Mobile Unit (DMMU) with the most advanced technology to the Breast Foundation, and organised the Balancing Bra Donation. This provided specially designed bras and prosthetic breasts to women who suffered breast removal as the result of an operation. Other activities have included informative seminars and the publication of pamphlets and leaflets on breast examination for the National Cancer Institute for distribution to women throughout Thailand.
