‘PEA ENCOM International’ - first subsidiary of Provincial Electricity Authority to penetrate both domestic and international energy businesses

Bangkok--11 Aug--4D Communications PEA ENCOM International Co., Ltd., becomes the first subsidiary company of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to officially announce serious engagement in both domestic and international energy businesses with related business development and investment strategy to help sustain Thailand’s energy stability, following the Cabinet resolution that raises alternative energy issue as a national agenda. Mr.Numchai Lowattanatakul, Acting Managing Director of PEA ENCOM International Co., Ltd., disclosed that the current issue of global warming and energy crisis had prompted the government to pay more attention to renewable energy policy. The response was a making of a 15-year renewable energy development plan, which was aimed to increase the ratio of renewable energy usage to as much as 20% of the country’s final energy consumption by 2022. “The Provincial Electricity Authority has realized the impact from energy crisis situation and therefore, established the PEA ENCOM International Co., Ltd. in accordance with a Cabinet resolution on June 3, 2009. The PEA ENCOM objective are to support production and use of renewable energy as the country’s main energy source, especially the use of biogas and biomass to prepare Thailand as one of Asia’s leaders in alternative fuels. The company is founded with 100 million baht registered capital, which entire stakes are held exclusively by the PEA, making it a state enterprise,” he said. The vision of the PEA ENCOM International Co., Ltd. is to be an investor in the innovative development of renewable energy in the region with mission to achieve sustainable renewable energy for appropriate profitability. To comply with the government policy, the company will also focus on conducting energy and related businesses. Its domestic investment will be focused on electricity generation through the use of renewable energy. For international investment, the company will invest in renewable energy business, providing construction and maintenance services of power substations and transmission lines. The business focus of PEA ENCOM International includes the following areas: 1. Renewable energy business — focusing on effective use of renewable energy such as biogas, biomass, wind, solar and hydropower. 2. Energy saving business — emphasizing on installing energy saving equipment, promoting energy management and providing professional consultancy for the customer. 3. Engineering and training business — offering training program to domestic and international operator such as power system operation and maintenance as well as submarine and underground cable. 4. International Venture Business — focusing on overseas investment such as small-scale hydro projects, transmission lines and power substations. “We have started conducting the investment feasibilities for various projects this year including seeking possible joint investments. PEA ENCOM International will start investing in 2011 worth 1.9 billion baht, beginning with investment in biogas and biomass for electricity generation and installation of energy-saving devices for street lighting. Our short-term plan for the next 3-5 years will focus on domestic renewable energy business with potential partners. As for the plan for the next 5-10 years, we are looking to expand investment further overseas with small-scale hydro power plant and services relating power transmission, distribution lines and power substation in the neighboring countries. These projects are under negotiation and feasibility study,” he explained. “We are confident that PEA ENCOM International will not only bring about more income and greater business opportunities domestically and internationally, but also create efficient production and usage of renewable energy - something that can substitute the expensive conventional fossil fuels and help generate adequate electricity supply in the provinces while still being environment friendly, which is exactly its motto of ‘Fulfill the Green Energy’,” he concluded.
